4.950 updating went wrong
« on: July 09, 2012, 05:58:17 AM »
After updating my 981C SI software to 4.590 version, I can not find any trace of SI in the unit.
I mean no SI under view button, no SI settings in setup menu and in all other menus :o :'(

Make sure you have the correct transducer set for your unit
(under the sonar menu).

There is no any transducer setting tabs under sonar menu, only tab Beam Select 50/200khz.
As I mentioned all Side view tabs disappeared, instead appeared tab with name Switchfire.

Are you absolutely sure that the software update you did
was for your exact model unit?

Make sure under the Set-Up menu, you have selected
Advanced.

I would think either under the Set-up or Sonar menu there would
be an option for the type of Transducer.

Hello.
I went to my account page on the HB homepage and downloaded update file that was available for
this unit.
Can not find transducer setting tab.
Maybe there is some possibility to redo to previous software version.

Down Imaging Beam Width tab is also appeared after update.
But all Side View tabs are gone.

Yes, you can go back and apply an older update.
Make sure there is only one .BIN file on your SD card.

I Put the wrong update on an 898 c si, the update was for the 858c. I then couldn't find the di or si untilI realized what I had done. So I just went to HB website and got the correct one. But you said it was the one listed for your unit after you logged in so IDK?
Just one last cast.

OK, I have tried all 5 update files found here http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?action=downloads;cat=6
with no success.
Even in simulator mode there is no SI tabs.
Before update unit worked perfectly . :-[
Software was no updated since I bought it in 2008.
First digits of serial # 512060, so it is 2005 year model, right?

Yes, your 981c Si unit was built in 2005.

I know you read the post you referenced, so you know that your unit will have to be sent into a service facility to be fixed.  Not sure what happened as the last unit referenced was replaced and not repaired.

So there is no magical cures like bootstrap for my unit?
Bad thing is, that here in Estonia we even do not have  dealership.  :(

You said that you tried all five update files from this web site.  You did not state that they did not load properly, so I assumed that they did.  The bootstrap mode would only be helpful if the software did not load.

Yes all 5 files loaded properly, but with no SI.
I will look around, maybe I can find some service facility in Finland.

Hi

Got answer from Humminbird's dealer in Finland, that they are not able to repair the unit with such a problem. They suggested that I need to send unit to US. :o
I think that shipping costs will be not so expensive, but how much will be repair costs?
Is it possible to find original software version (3.180) for exact unit ?
or maybe there is some possibility to do such a "repair" remotely, as it looks that it is only software issue?

Regards

According to the Humminbird web site, the cost to repair a 981c unit is $380.45 (US).

It may be possible to find out the original version of software the unit was made with.  I would need to know the full serial number to be able to do so.  I don’t think that it will help though as you have loaded five software versions successfully and it did not help.  I think that you will have to send the unit in to get it fixed or look at replacing the unit.

Unfortunately no.
I have tried all five versions with bootstrap mode, but
at the end I left 4.950 version in the unit.
At least there is new feature - SwitchFire and the new tab - Down Imaging Beam Width(not working).
Strange thing that everything else working correctly except SI/DI.
How can some functions simply disappear during update ?
I have checked shipping prices, which is about $300 to US and back, +  $380 for unit repair.
I think, that I have to  get used to a life without SI. :'(

Hi Andreas,

before you send the unit to the US, check with G-Comm in the UK and ask if they can help you. I bought my 981 there three years ago and Ian sorted out all problems that occured. They had a HB distributor right across the street, but the service department for HB moved to Italy.

Here's the phone number: +44-8455438413.
And here's their Web-Site: http://www.g-comm.co.uk/
Say hello from Harry!

Best wishes and regards from Germany / Harry
