200/83 khz transducer for 859ci hd di

sideburns:
This is my first post here, although Ive been lurking the forums for almost a year now.  I have an 859 down imaging unit "kvd version" with the original transom mount 800/455 200/455 transducer and have not been happy with the fish arches I get out of the narrow 2d sonar.  I troll alot for trout kokanee and salmon.  I would really like to use the wider 200/83 mhz frequency and still be able to locate fish while using the main motor, with the minn kota stowed.

I thought, until recent reading, that the XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T was my only option.  The posts I discovered here are a few years old, http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=6080.0  &  http://bb.sideimageforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4538.  This seems to indicate, since my unit does have a menu option for 200/83, that all I would need is a y cable and a 2d transducer.  Can anyone verify this for my specific model, and/or suggest a specific transom mount transducer to add?

Thanks for your time!

You can indeed use the AS SIDB Y cable and any of the HB stock 200kHz/83kHz xducers to get the wider 20°/60° Sonar beams to function with you 859 DI model ...

This is possible because the wiring configuration of the AS SIDB Y cable disconnnects the 2d wire going to the 2d piezo in the XNT 9 DI T and reroutes the 2d signal to the 2d xducer connected to the Dual Beam leg of the AS SIDB Y cable ...

It is still important to change the Connected Transducer "Menu" to "Dual Beam" (or DI+200/83 dependent on software version) so that the transmitter knows to transmit the 200kHz/83kHz 2d ...

Thanks so much for your help and your quick reply I can't wait to try it out. I hope it helps with the depth reading the downrigger ball also.

Are you having problems with depth readings ... ??

Sometimes the depth reading picks up the downrigger ball.  Trolling in in 75+ fow, at certain downrigger ball depth intervals, it reads the ball depth, but of coarse I can still tell how deep it really is by the graph.  Changing sensitiviy, clutter, max or clear wont change it.  If it really bugs me I'll reboot it and sometimes its fixed, for a while.

I haven't tried using the 2d depth detection setting yet though.

I'm still fumbling my way around this thing, as its our first finder of this caliber.  Ive got a few other areas of confusion too, if you've got the time /patience...
