Hi Felix
I'm looking forward to the first pictures, like comparable with older HB units.

Hello, any update of Helix G3 with Towfish?
Thank you !
-
hi
some screen shoot with deepview 3, conversion in xtf do best view before reef upgrade....
in sea, 240 m coverage at 455 chirp, in river mega+ to view a future archéological area....1300 khz give some null effect at short range i prefer usine select
whe must test again to use the best of G3....but there's more detail at long range

Fantastic !!
What is the length of the cable (towfish) ?
Thank´s
-
Cable at 50 meters, for moment....may be 100 m in few weeks ;D

Hi Felix
That looks very good.
Thank you.

Is the cable used the same as other posts (Cat 7a S/FTP) ?
Sorry for asking so many questions.
I'm going to set up my Tow Fish and I can not go wrong.
Thank you.
-
hi
yes, the cable is 7a sftp, the wiring i do is the same for méga G2.
-
Hi guys,
Have you made any extra sealing for the transducer cable entry (picture helps) ? How deep your towfish are swimming?
-
Hi
No extra sealing for the cable entry, for moment max deep use with 100 m câble is 45 m, no problem, but it's true, the sealing seem's not strong.
-
I believe the transducer is potted in some type of resin. I had an older 798 that was stored in a hot garage and something that looked like resin oozed out of it. So I think it's likely safe at depth.
Also, I'm just finishing up building my own Helix 9 G2 DIY towfish. Let me know what you think:
-
hi chris
it seem's good
if you want to know what is in ducer there is repply in forum

Hi
What about the Helix G3 tests?
With 50 metres cable the résults in 455 chirp and 1300 are very Good. What about 800 hertz?
Have you similar résults with 80 m or 100 m cable?
Bravo et merci for sharing your researchs

hi Bernard
now whe use two towfishs with 80 m câble for deep water and one with 20 m for under 12 m depth
all frequencies give good result but whe can see a little lost signal in coverage distances.
this pics is with chirp at 1000 / 1300 in river made with 20m tow câble , it's an old wreek protected with bidim and sand bags
[attach=1]
and this is 2 canons with the 80m câble towfish in salt water at 455 khz chirp
[attach=2]
it's interesting ::::whe lost use 800khz chirp ....may be a try in fiew weeks...

Bonjour Felix,
Thanks a lot for your reply.
I am amazed by the quality of your results with un equipement costing around 2000 euros !
I think i'am going to build one myself, taking a lot of inspirations from yours.
Are you still using a 10 or 12 helix G3 or have you switched to the G4?
Is the 80 mètres cable still a Cat 7 A SFTP?
Why don't you keep the probe cable whole by interposing the Cat 7 cable in a 3 mètres extension cable cut in two? i suppose there would be a loss of signal?
The photos of the connexions show singles strand copper wires; why don't you use more flexible multibrins copper ?
Thank you again for sharing your experience.

Sorry!!
I wrote in English and he he translated it into French!!
-
hi
Whe use an helix 9 G3, and a 12G4 , it works with same result.
the câble is a cat 7 A sftp in simple Wire.
The attempts with flexible multibrins give us bad return and lost signals
I solder it and change cable every year or 1,5 year
some people make connection using underwater connectors but it's expensive
and sorry for my verry bad english
the thing i earn more in my studies is "Take the door" :D
-
Hi Félix
Don't be sorry for your English, it's not worse than mine. I write on this forum with the help of French English translation software which is also a little approximate.
In any case, thanks to this forum and in particular to you, i have now almost all the elements to get started. The sounder G3 ou G4, the cable and is maximum possible length, the connection to be established, and all possible fishes.
Just one last question if possible.
From your photos i have the impression that you shortened the probe cable a lot to connect with tha Cat 7. If so what what length of probe cable do you keep?
I had thought about keeping all the probe cable and using a 3-meter cut extension cable to interpose the Cat 7. Do you think this could cause signal loss? I will use an 80-meter cable.
Many thanks for your knowledge-sharing

hi Bernard
I cut the ducer cable at 1 m after probe, the cat 7 cable take the traction (1 m make me sure that i can cut and change the cable for many years)
i weld all wire and isolate them before making a waterproof finition.
keep us informed for your work and design ;)

Thanks a lot Felix !
Now i have all the elements to get started.
I plan to explore the depths of the Mediterranean between 45 and 65 meters which will require significant ballast and above all very low progress to lower the ducer to around 45 meters; I hope to start in June and will not fail to report back to you.
Good luck for your researchs with the Arepmaref.
