Title: Solix power and depth issue. PLEASE HELP !
Post by: bassmasterG13 on March 31, 2019, 09:52:55 PM
Hello I have a 2014 skeeter tzx190. It originally had a humminbird 788 at console with a shoot thru Hull transducer which worked fine. This year I upgraded to a Solix 10 si and kept the shoot thru ducer and connected it with a 9 to 14 pin adapter to a y cable for the high speed 2d and the hdsi ducer. I used a power source from under the console which runs off my brand new 27 series dual purpose battery. Every time I start the Yamaha my Solix restarts itself because the drop in power. I am not going direct to the battery with 8 gauge wire with a in line 5 amp fuse. This way the unit will never lose power when starting the outboard. I am also experiencing imaging issues. My unit will never display the right depth it mostly shows —— or 900ft or somthing erratic. If I take the unit off of auto depth then I can get clear di and si imaging but still do not get a depth reading. As for 2D that only shows a white screen I can never get an image on that screen. Can all these problems be related to power? Or do I most likely have a bad unit ? Thanks

Most boat manufacturers do not provide heavy enough wiring for today's power hungry electronics  ... Regardless of what battery is connected - if the wiring to the Sonar unit is not big enough, the wire will not carry the consistent amps needed  ...

Your 2d and depth issues sounds like the existing shoot thru xducer is either coming loose from its epoxy mounting or just plane wore out (transducers elements vibrate - vibration is physical energy - physical energy wears stuff out)  ...

Disconnect the shoot thru and Y cable and test the 2d performance from the stock SOLIX xducer  ... If things are better you might think about replacing the shoot thru xducer  ...
