No Depth in tracks
« on: May 14, 2009, 05:22:01 AM »
Hi All,

My Question:
When I have downloaded my tracks after a day on the water I am getting a depth of 0.0 on all of my track points in the file. I am running the latest firmware(4.51) and also the international version of the 798 with metric units. My tracks have had 1800 and 5000 pts in them and once downloaded to Humminbird PC I am converting them with GPSBabel for use in MAPsource, then converting to a txt file. I have seen this mentioned on another forum that once the number of pts went over 1000 all depths became 0.0 but there was no reasoning or resolution for this problem that I could find. Also is there software that can import the HB's tracks and then export to a txt or csv file?

Thanks

Dean

Hi Dean,

I´ve got exactly the same problem on my unit. My firmare is 4.780.
I´ve tried a few things: save new tracks after a few minutes; with and without recodring...
the problem remains the same.

I did not find helpful information in this forum so far.
Any ideas?

regards
klinki

Try this the next time that you are out and want to save a track and get depth information from it:
1. Perform a “Clear Current Track” when you get the spot that you want to start your new track at.
2. Start and travel your track.
3. When you get to the end of your track, perform a “Save Current Track”.
Trackplots made this way should have water depth information in them.  Not sure about the conversion stuff but you should be able to see those depths in HumminbirdPC but only if you view the data off of the SD memory card.  HumminbirdPC will be modified in the future so you can see this data from a trackplot that has already been saved to your computer.

Hi Greg,

OK, I´ll try out your method.

Did I mention that the output from HumminBirdPC to google earth has the problem? If you pick one point of your track you´ll see there there is the same depth information as in the converted GPX-file: 0.0m.

In a few days I´m gonna start a new trip on my lake.

Thanks so far!
