Hey guys I know a lot of you are waiting and hoping for a software update that rids these units of the huge readouts on the left side. Check out the beginning of this YouTube video it has full sidescan with no readouts. The screen looks huge!

Thanks for posting the video.  I fixed your post so the video would show.  All you need to do is just copy and paste a YouTube link in the post, no BBC needed!  The mobile link m.youtube.com will not show the player, just the link.  You can fix this by replacing the 'm' with 'www'.

Cool thanks did you watc the vid? The language was German but I noticed the readouts were gone with sidescan. Is this an option now?

Yes you can on the 898/998.  That feature is available on software update 6.180 and up.  The option to remove most of the SI readouts has been available for over a year now.

Removable readouts on SI views - this is only on the 898 and 998 Side Imaging units.  This allows for an expanded view of the SI screen.  It only effects the full Side Imaging Screen.

And Wolf thanks for the detailed reply. That is awesome, I am so glad that I ordered an 898 vs. the 798. So worth the extra $350 IMO.

    On sorry I missed the second part of that quote. That is AWESOME!! I like the readouts, but it sure will be nice to use that entire screen for SI/DI and 2d!! I sure am glad HB is as responsive to its client base as they are!!!

You guys might think about taking the few minutes to call or email HB and add your name to the multitude of others requesting "removable/overlay-able/ interchange-able" Readouts on all view screens...

HB listens to their customers...they just gotta know how many users the change is going to benefit...

Just the full screen SI view is capable of overlaying the depth and temp in the bottom left corner...

And only on the 800, 900 series SI units...(with the correct software version)..

Yes, you can turn them off in other views as well. I have done this in the simulation mode by going to the full view of the SI, DI and 2D and turning off the readouts. Have not verified on the water yet but if it works in the simulation mode I don't see why it will not work on the water. Now when I turn on my 998c SI in my home I don't have anything but depth lines showing on the screen in the DI and 2D. In SI all that is displayed is depth but I figure when I get on the water then temperture will be displayed as it always has been since the 6.180 came out. In navigation and map views COG and speed is still displayed on individual pages views as well as when combined views are displayed.

Ruff I just got my unit today and same here. I can turn off all readouts on all of the down imaging, SI and 2d sonar views. And you can choose to leave one or more on if you want. So it seems as if HB has really listened to the public and allowed them full use of their entire screen for whatever their hearts desire. I have to say, I absolutely ecstatic about this purchase. Could not have spent a better $1300 dollars.

I am not sure they have been listening but sure hope they have. I believe you could always turn the readouts on or off and select which ones you want except for the COG which is always displayed on navigation and charts views. Wish they would change that! I'm with you on these units, love mine! We need to do like Rickie suggested and contact Humminbird and request the changes we would like to see regarding this issue.
