Installed 6.640 update on both my 1198 which are connected via an Ethernet hub. Neither Bow or Consol unit see each other. Ran fine on last version. As well only the consol unit in menu view shows all menu options, Alarms; Sonar; Nav; Chart; Setup; Views; Accessories. Bow Unit is missing both Nav and Chart View menu options. I have cecked all conections and both worked fine just the day before the update. Can anyone suggest how to make units connect and view the Nav and Chart menu options?

Masterschampion:
You really installed that update quickly.
Extremely dangerous move.

You should wait at least 2 months to search for
any negative reviews on the web before installing a
new update.

If Greg can't help you, it may be best for you to go back to
your prior software version.

Ok. Sounds good. I will look up the older version. I gather there is no problems going backward. Just set both to their original default and reinstall the older version.  Thanks

There is usually no problems going backwards, providing
you only go back as far as the version that was installed
when you got your unit.
Greg may be able to help you with the new version.
You may not have to go back.

Does the bow unit have a GPS Receiver connected to it or does it get this information from the console mounted 1198 unit?
When you updated the units, did you update them one at a time or both at once (using two SD cards)?
Were both units powered on and connected when you updated them?

Make sure that each unit is still connected to the Ethernet cable and that it is tight.  You can try disconnecting them, power the units on and let them start up and run for a few minutes, then power them off, reconnect the Ethernet cable and power them both back on again.

Hi Greg
There is only one GPS and it is connected to the Ethernet Hub I believe. Complete installation was done by a Humminbird facility. I validated the update procedure with Humminbird and used one SD Card at a time, updated the Console Unit and then took the same card and updated the Bow unit. According to your colleagues it is the same update so it does not have to be another card. No both units were not on, I updated them one at a time. I have since gone back two versions and the units still do not communicate this complete set up runs through the Humminbird Hub at the console.

Hi Greg,
I am running 6.570 now which I received from Humminbird.  They did not have the next newer version available. There are a couple of other notable Bow unit issues.  When I set my readouts on the bottom for Depth, date etc, they never stay.  My Chart and Nav option menu tabs are gone and I gather that is due to not having a GPS connection because if I connect the Bow unit to the Console area it connects to the GPS and I have the Chart and Nav Menus.  I have a SI Transducer mounted up front on my trolling motor but it does not show on the Bow Unit either that I can tell.

Masterschampion,
You are correct in that the bow unit will not have the GPS related menus and Views because that unit is not connected to a GPS Receiver.  This is because the units are not connecting through the Ethernet which needs to be resolved before moving forward.

The GPS Receiver must be connected to the console mount position (it cannot connect directly to the Ethernet Switch).

The 6.570 version software should work fine as it applies to the Ethernet connection so I am not sure what is going on there.  Make sure that all Ethernet cabling is fully connected and that the Ethernet Switch is powered.  After that I would try direct connecting an Ethernet cable between the units (bypassing the Ethernet Switch) and see if they will communicate than as something could have gone wrong with the Ethernet Switch.

You are right, I have the GPS connected to the Console Unit. I will have to get another E Cable and try connecting the two units. I will let you know what happens. Long weekend here in Canada. Will be next week sometime.

I would see if I could temporarily move one of the 1198 units closer so that you can use one of the Ethernet cables that you have now instead of buying a new cable to test this with.

I do not have two units connected but when I put in the new software yesterday everything reverted to the default settings.   I wonder if you might have to reset something in the menu that states you have another unit connected or if this is done automatically?
