Topic: connecting 1197 and 1198 together software ethernent

i have just got my 1197 back from repair after a software up grade problem, i have brought a 1198 in the mean time do both unit have to be on the same software no for Ethernet connection
ie the 1198 is 6.18 and the 1197 is 6.6, after my problem up grading i am reluctant to up grad the bean new 1198

From the FAQ for the 6.640 version software:
“These software updates draw a line in the sand.  Once a user updates one or more of their units to software version 6.640 or 6.680 they must update all of the other Ethernet networked units to the same release.   If they try to use one unit with software version 6.680 and another unit on the same network that might be at 6.610 or lower these models will no longer talk to each other until the unit that is at 6.610 or lower has been updated to the newest release of 6.640 or 6.680.   If the units are not networked, this issue is irrelevant.”

So yes, you do have to update the software in the 1198 nit if you want to Ethernet connect them.

i upgraded the 1198 to 6.60 the same as the 1197, how ever when i turn the 1197 it says no transducer connected, and goes into simulation mode, when looking in menu after a minute it sees the other unit i click on the 1198 settings so the 1197 can read it, still stays in simulation mode, if i switch off then on it reverts back with no memory or the net work settings.
any help

The units do not remember menu settings while in the point of purchase simulator mode (the one the unit automatically enters into when powered on without a transducer).  Try powering on your 1198 first and allowing it to start up and the sonar gets working.  Then power on your 1197 and force it into the Normal operating mode and set it to use the 1198’s transducer.

So yes, you do have to update the software in the 1198 nit if you want to Ethernet connect them.

I,m wondering if this could be my issue with the 898,s screen going green. I "had" the newer software on it and when my Dad left I put the 898 back on my boat and rolled back the software. I did not install the G16 puck on my boat but left it connected to my portable setup for this winter.. and I never updated the 858 to the newer software, they are connected via Ethernet. Sry not trying to hi jack the thread hmmm. Again sry Gat

hi Greg, i also want to run dr depth and it will not work with 6.60 there is no 6.4 for the 1197 unit will they talk together on 6.18? is 1198 and 1197 on 6.18

i tried turning on the 1198 unit for 5 minutes then turning on the 1197 same problem no transducer connected, went to network set up tick all the 1198 settings no change ,?
 when i turned back the 1197 last time it did not show a screen saying computer software upgrading is this normal when down grading , is there a 6.4 for the 1197?

You should always see that message when either upgrading or downgrading software.
You should look to see what software version the 1197 unit thinks it is running right now.
There is no 6.400 software for the 1197c Si units.

i can not get the 2 units to talk with the same software (6.6), can you suggest a version of software that they will talk together, the only difference is on the 1197 was factory set the other was downloaded from this web site it should not make any difference, however they do no t talk to each other

The 6.600 software should have allowed them to talk to each other.
You should call the Humminbird Customer Resource folks about this.

I see why we have the forum, the reply from humminbird( read manual), i have found the problem, connecting the transducer to the 1197 the 1198 will work, however the other way around it just comes up no transducer on the 1197, so its a software incompatibility problem? also the 1197 runs slower when connected as compared to the 1198, processing power? so i will just run the 1198 until some one updates the problem
