Title: updating problems

Ok  tried to update today with no luck. I used a 1g sd card it did have bout 2o pictures on it but I put the update on there anyways. I powered up the unit then restored defaults and then put in the sd card, waited and waited and nothing happened. Tried the other sd slot with same results. Nothing! What am I doing wrong?

Foster,

What software version do have on your 987 at the moment and what version do have on the SD card?

Turn your unit on, restore to defaults and turn it off. Then turn it on again let it go through the start up sequence and then put the SD card in. The unit should recognize the newer version and ask you if you want to update. Answer with "yes" (right cursor button) and then the unit asks if you want to abort the update. Answer with "no" (left cursor button). The update should start then. Don't interupt the update process!
After the update the unit will restart automatically.
Turn it off and restart it again. Some guys restore to defaults again before they change the settings back to their preferences.

Hm,

are you sure you have the right update version?

Make sure you download the update from here

or from your Humminbird account from the Humminbird website.

If you have accidentally downloaded an update for a 997 or 981 to your SD card, the unit will not recognize the update (.bin file)

Check and see if that helps!

The download file name should be M987.4_770.bin

Make sure that you loaded it into the SD card but not in a file folder within the SD card.

Can you save a screen snapshot to that same memory card?

You may want to try it again without the pictures on the SD card.

Thanks so much guys, it worked!! I took the pics off the card and put the updates on it again. Then reset defaults on unit and then turned unit off then  back on and it took the updates.
