798c SI as Chartplotter only
« on: March 06, 2011, 12:36:52 AM »
Hi everyone,

If I wanted to use my 798c SI as a chartplotter only, will I be doing any damage to my unit by running it in Normal Mode without a transducer attached to it?  Can I just turn Sonar off under the settings and be fine?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, you can turn off the sonar.  Yes you can run without the transducer attached.

However a caution is in order. If you have the extention cable plugged into the unit do not power on without the transducer attached. It can burn the transmitter if you have sonar on.

Thanks, Sonar2000.  The only thing I have connected to it is power.  Would there any issues if I forget to turn off sonar if there is no transducer or extension cable connected to it?

I see no problem with that.  The only issue is with an extender cable and no transducer... but you seem to not have the extender so you should be fine..
Always ask questions here any time.

Thanks again!  If there's going to be problem with doing something, I'd much rather know now than after I break it!   :)
