Original software version
« on: September 28, 2013, 04:17:15 AM »
On my 898 SI, how can I determine what the original software version was?  After upgrading several times, my coverage (especially 2D) kept getting worser and worser.  I downloaded 6.1 from this site and everything seems back to normal. I was hoping to find out what the original was and if I could find it and put it back.  I do not have 360 or I-pilot so all of the additions were unnecessary on the newest software update.  The unit is 2 years old this month.

From what I understand...you can ONLY go back one update.  Make sure you follow ALL directions.  I have a 1198 and 898...have updated the 1198 each time when update has come out with NO problem.  The 898 is new.  Make sure the restore default is clicked prior to the update and after the update is installed.  MY suggestion to you is get on youtube...type in "how to update your humminbird side image software" and then follow directions.  You can also do with directions and instructions from Humminbird website.  Make sure your product is registered with Humminbird as well as it is good to sign up with Humminbird SElect program.  Good Luck......

The recommendation from HB is to never back grade to a version older than what came on the unit date of manufacture...

This is because new types or models of internal parts are installed in the units as they become available to HB...meaning a new internal design part can be added into a certain model stream of unit without a customer applied update or newly released model stream...

Then if the unit is backgraded to a version that does support the HB added internal part...it can cause incompatibility issues in the function of the unit...

You can call HB with yor specific serial number and they can tell you exactly which software version that specific unit was shiped out with...
