6 ft. power cable

Just got a 6 ft. power cable from Humminbird...before I do anything stupid....can I run the power cable from a 12 volt battery to my 989 and learn the functions....will that hurt my unit...I thought I could learn the functions by viewing pages camparing to the clips on YouTube.....please educate me.

Shouldn't be a problem.  A lot of guys will even use a 12v hobby battery for in the house.  Still put an inline fuse, just in case!

There are even instructions here on the forum on hooking up to a plug in transformer.

what size inline fuse would you suggest....I have a 12 volt (small lawn mower battery) next to my work desk in my shop....thanks
