With my 898ci hd I have several sonar selections, duel, quad, side hd, side ect. My question is which sonar is best for marking fish at trolling speed in 50-70 feet of water? Just trying to get a handle on the 2d for now.
Also I have installed a high speed trasducer, what beam do I select for location fish at running speed 20-30 mph. ? Thanks for your input

The Transducer Select menu tells the unit which channels to ping....
There will be no difference in the "performance" of the separate piezoes with the different setting choices...
With your 898c HD SI Combo and it's stock XHS 9 HDSI 180 T...the correct setting is the "Hi Def SideScan"...
This tells the unit to ping the 2d channel and the left and right SI channels...
The 898 unit will work with the "Dual Beam" setting ...but it will only ping the 2d channel with this "Transducer Select" menu setting...(because the SI transmitters are shut off)...

You mention a "high speed" xducer...(83kHz/200kHz Dual Beam I'm assuming)...
If this additional "high speed" xducer is connected to the 898 along with the AS SIDB Y cable ...all 2d readings will be coming from this "high speed" xducer...because the AS SIDB Y cable disconnects the 2d piezo wires going to the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T....(if this is your setup...the "Transducer Select" menu should be set to "Hi Def SideScan"...)
If this additional "high speed" xducer is connected to the 898 along with the HB TS3 switch ...the 2d readings will be coming from the xducer that the switch dictates...(if this is your setup...the "Transducer Select" menu should be set to "Hi Def SideScan" when the HB TS3 switch is set to the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T....and conversely set to "Dual Beam" when the HB TS3 switch is set to the "high speed" xducer...)

Thanks for the help. I can understand it much better now.
I have been running it that way and playing with the others. But wasn't clear when the high-speed was on or off.
Does the straight side scan setting have a place for my fishing on the greatlakes?
With SI and Down Img. would the quad beam benefit me in any way? I know that requires another xducer.

The QuadraBeam transducer could benefit you in a few different ways:
The first would be that it can be mounted inside-the-hull and possibly give you sonar readings that cover a wider area at a faster speed than the HDSi transducer can (this would be due to transducer placement, not anything technology-wise).
The second is that since the Quad Beams are wider front-to-back versus the Si sonar beams; it would make spotting fish easier especially at 20 to 30 mph. No guarantees how well this will work for you though as it’s been a very long time since I used one of these transducers.
