AS GPS HS Puck Mounting Idea
« on: May 12, 2015, 05:38:22 PM »
I recently mounted the gps receiver to my boat.  I purchased the external AS GPS HS instead of using the internal receiver on my 1199 unit.  I did not have a good level surface to mount the transducer to so I got creative.  I have attached pictures of how I mounted the GPS puck.  Using a RAM mount is great because I was able to properly orient the puck with the heading of the boat and also keep it level with the world.  I used some 3/4" HDPE plastic along with the RAM mount to make a great, adjustable mount.  I thought someone else may be in the same position and could use the idea.

:)  Thanks for the ideals. I have my GPS HS Puck mounted by my console outside of my wrap around window It was done by the dealer. I would have preferred if to be either mounted at the bow or near the main motor. Again thanks for the Ideals and the pictures.

You want the GPS antenna to be mounted as close to the transducer as feasible.
**Looking for the one that makes it all worthwhile**

My Puck is mounted with in 1 foot of my Console mounted Head unit. I have an offset inputted on the head unit to account for the location that the Puck is mounted. Being that I have multiple transducers on my boat; one on the Terrova troll motor and two on the transom and one thru hull at transom.  I am ok where it is at between both fore and aft transducers. Should I ever upgrade my Head units. I will install the new Puck at the Transom near my main transducer that will be located there for the newer head unit being that the other transducer is for my Cannon Digitroll 10TS units mounted on the rear quarters of my boat. Or I may tell the head units to use the internal GPS on the newer head unit that will replace my 798CI HD on the bow

Thanks Bob for the heads up. I am fully aware that there are two distinct locations for mounting a Puck Either at the Bow and or the transom as much center at possible.
