Title: Updating Software learning curve :#
Post by: RonnieB on May 10, 2015, 10:39:29 AM
Whew, what a learning curve...  :P
I have an Onix 10ciSI, 360 and I-pilot Link. Only tested a very brief few minutes in water (I forgot lifejackets and fire extinguisher :-\). But after reading all the posts about updating to latest software, I thought I would go ahead and get that out of the way. I thought I would share some mistakes I made along the way. I cannot remember exact sequence of events, so 1 thing may have been the remedy for all other mistakes.

1: Onix came with software version 2.0. In the middle of all my troubles, I noticed there was an Onix update 2.3 (5/5/2015).  I can't remember for sure, but after updating to version 2.3 is about same time things started to go right.... Update took no longer than 2 mins each at most.

2: I downloaded all software updates together onto 1 SD card. Nothing came up on Onix screen. I put 1 update file on the SD card. I then erased it and put on the next update.

3: When separating updates to different SD cards, my computer renamed them with a (2) on the end. Don't know if it helped or not but I removed the (2).

4: Trolling motor has to be deployed and ON (motor not running) to update it. I don't know if the 360 has to be deployed in order to update or not. But I deployed it just in case.

5: Update TM controller first, then the remote

6: Unit did not like my 32G SD card for some reason? I tried so many times and different ways not sure if it was a SD issue or not.

7: Don't forget Lifejackets and fire extinguisher.

8: Hard to admit.... but most of the problems are owner ignorance. These are not plug-n-play units. Once correctly installed, 3/4 of the battle is won.

And for consolation to those with mfg problems, I have a 2013 Ford truck with a bad xmission. Ford dealer nor Mfg cannot find the problem. Will not warranty it without knowing point of failure. Been in shop for 3 wks. Dealer said it will be another wk at least. I cannot pull boat with the Nissan Sentra rental car, so all I can do is play in my boat in my front yard and mow around it :-X .  It happens!

I'm curious as to why your files were renamed with the (2) at the end ...

Did you move them from SD Card to SD Card ...or move the files from the unzipped folder on your PC one at a time ... ??

So...is everything working now ...??

Actually, I re-downloaded updates several times. Just trying something. I had some with (3) & (4) also. Mac computer. I think what ever is in parenthesis is information and it is not read, not sure. But I was shooting in the dark. Originally, I had all on 1 SD card at same time. I moved them off the card back to computer and just had 1 update file on SD card. Then I started from scratch. Fresh Download. Each time I re-downloaded file, it renamed it with another (#) in the file name.

But something finally clicked and I got it all updated but not in water yet. I been pinging the heck out of my front yard. Grass is still growing under boat though ;D

Maybe the renaming issue is the Mac handles that type of file movement ... I'm not sure ...

I do know HB states to not rename files in the download ...

So if your computer did rename the files ...you probably did well in removing those extra characters the Mac added to the file names ...
