Does the latest version of Hbird PC work with the 998?

No, the current version of Hb PC is not compatible with the 998 or 898 using the PC connect cable. But you can certainly still manage waypoints and use the SD card to upload them to the unit.

Can you elaborate a little? I see that there is an option to export the waypoints to the SD card, but how do you upload waypoints to the 998? I've marked quite a few waypoints with Hummviewer and can view them in Google Earth. How do I get these into the 998? Thanks for the help.

Well,
create new waypoints in HBPC (remember to use the right format!) and upload the waypoints to your SD card. After that you just slide the SD card into your unit and turn it on. The unit will recognize the new waypoints and will upload and display them on it.

If I remember correctly..
Once you have marked waypoints in Humviewer...
You can choose "File/Export" and export your waypoints into the HB format...then you open those waypoints in HBPC and convert them into the correct format to upload them back onto the SD card and imput them into your unit...
Someone correct me if I don't have this just right...

Thanks for the help fellas. If I save the waypoints to a sd card from Humviewer, then put the card in the 998, will the 998 put these waypoints into it's internal memory? Or do I have to have the sd card in the unit to use these waypoints?

Waypoints, tracks and routes are all saved to the unit’s internal memory. Once the waypoints are loaded you can remove the SD card. It won’t hurt to leave it in there but you may get annoyed at the “No new nav data found” message each time you power the unit on.

Interesting. With my 998 and without an SDHC card, each time I pressed to mark a waypoint the display barked with a message that a memory card was not present. Is there a setting to divert the waypoint data to the unit's internal memory?

Did you have the snapshot feature turned on? If so it looks for a SD card to store the pic.

Waypoints. routes , and tracks go directly to the internal memory....(not the SD card)
Snapshots and recordings go directly to the SD card...(not the internal memory)
As contyboycansurvive stated...if you have your "Snapshot" feature turned on in your setting...when you press the "Mark" button...the unit sends the GPS data to the internal memory at the same time it sends the Snapshot to the SD card...
To get your GPS data onto the SD card..you have "Export all NAV data" under the "NAV" tab in the menu....
