Linking screenshots to Waypoints
« on: July 02, 2010, 11:25:58 AM »
Hi
Does anyone know how to link existing screenshots to newly created waypoints?  I have accidently deleted some waypoints and want to re create them so that the original screenshots open when the cursor is ocver the icons.
I think the answer is in the .dat file associated with the screen shots, but i can not open them .
 Cheers Pugwash

Pugwash,

So let me get this right.  You deleted the waypoint but did not delete the image?

The information you need is in the .dat file, but it will not be easy to get the info unless you understand hex files and know where the data is in each byte.

How many waypoints are you talking about?

Hi Robert
Yes that is correct.
I was trying to clean up the list of waypoints on my H bird, which has 100s of unwanted records made from pressing the 'Mark' button
I backed up the SD card from my H bird using the Humminbird PC program, then I copied all the screen shots (.dat & .png files) onto my laptop.
I then copied the Waypoints I wanted to keep from Humminbird PC back onto the SD card, followed by the Screenshots.

I now have got the waypoints  and the screen shots that I want to keep.......only the latter do not automatically open when the cursor is over the waypoint icon.

There must be an easier method to remove unwanted screen shots & waypoints, but I have not found it yet!

In answer to you 2nd question, there are about 12 screen shots that I would like to re link up to waypoints.

If you were able to get the original waypoints back on the unit, you should be able to put the original screenshot back in the SNAPSHOT folder along with its associated .dat file and it should work.

Make sure you have not changed any names or edited any of the snapshots!

hi

on Onix one can load a pic on your sd card and then view these files on your unit. It works exactly same as a screenshot pic, but it is not linked to a waypoint.

Is there any way to get these photos of structure linked to the actual structure waypoint? So in otherwords, add a waypoint tag to an image that was not created with screenshot?

Thanks

There is an option to have the ONIX create a waypoint when a screenshot is created ... But that selection would be for future Waypoints/screenshots ...

I do not know if one could create a waypoint and attach it to an existing screenshot ...
