Helix 7 Mounting Options
« on: March 07, 2016, 01:07:58 PM »

Just picked up a HB Helix 7. Unit looks awesome and can't wait to get it on the water but I am annoyed that the stock gimbal bracket doesn't allow the unit to be swiveled. The HB quick connect mounts were awesome.

I have been researching the swivel mounting options and have narrowed it down to:

Ram Ball Mount - http://www.rammount.com/search?search_type=search&query=helix+7

Johnny Ray Mount -http://www.johnnyraysports.com/swivel%20mounts.htm

I like the idea of the infinite adjustability of the Ram Ball Mount but am concerned that it might fail in rough water.
Has anyone else used the 1.5" Ram Ball Mounts on a similar application?
How easy is it to remove the ff from the mount for storage?

Johnny Ray mounts have rave reviews and seem bullet proof due to simple design.

Thanks in advance.

this is what I just ordered for my 899.  It is the 2.25" ball so I should not have any problems with it moving while trailoring or rough water.

I can provide more feedback once I get it

I mounted my 898cHDSI on a Ram 111u that I had which has only a 1" ball & it holds fine.  I fish mostly on the WI River.  I have had it out in 18" white cap water & it still holds fine.  That is an undersized mount for a 898, but it does the trick for my purpose.  I refer Ram mounts, they've never failed me.

So your question about mounting a helix 7. I used the 1.5" ram mount with a 9" arm. I fish in ND, I have zero problem with it holding. The balls have a rubber like coating on them. When you tighten it down, it really hold.  If you want to see a really SERIOUS mount, go look at the website,    Balzout.com . They manufacture the from aluminum and they are a thing of beauty, exepensive, but really impressive!!

Received the ram mount. I have no concerns about its ability to hold the unit in rough water. Definitely feels like a quality product
