Topic: SI Trannsducer Placement

First timer on this board, and it looks like a wealth of great info. I just purchased a 998 and need to mount the transducer on a 1790T Skeeter that has a step at the bottom of the transom. I bought an extra ducer and Y split for high speed 2D. If I mount the HDSI ducer anywhere on the step, it will be hanging below the bottom of the transom, which I don't want because I occasionally fish around stump fields. Am I going to have a problem if I mount this above the step, with my SI and DI readings? I know I will lose high speed reading with this position, but that's why I purchased the extra ducer. Is there anywhere on this site that has pics of mounting locations on particular boats, maybe someone has mounted one on a 1790? Thx in advance for any help you can send.....Dan

Dan,
You can look in the Image Library (http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?action=mgallery ) and see if someone else upload any installation images for a Skeeter 1790T or not.  There are other web sites that have installation images as well.  Send me a personal email and I can send you links to them.

Most Si owners are mounting their Si transducers higher up off the bottom of the transom to protect their Si transducers from damage.  You just have to make sure that the Si sonar will not be blocked by the lower unit of the motor or anything else.

Greg, thx for the reply. So you're saying if I mount it above the step(screws) so that the HDSI ducer will hang within the step area, but not below the bottom of the boat, I should get good SI & DI readings as long as I have a clear path side to side?

Greg is right....As long as you have a clear path for the signal you will get fantastic pictures.

Things that get in your way are, motor shafts, prop wash (cavitation) or bubblings.
