798ci HD SI depth and GPS problems!!!!!
« on: June 24, 2011, 09:28:23 AM »
Hi everyone,

I have the 798ci HD SI and took off yesterday out of state for a fishing trip thru the weekend. This is the third time I have used the unit since purchase.

The depth started going crazy reading all the way down to 1.7 feet in 180 feet of water and just jumping all over the place. I called Humminbird and aftermaking 3 separate calls, trying all kinds of settings and restoring defaults we never could get the problem fixed. Just when we would think it was fixed it would happen again.

They are going to send me a new transducer to try and if this does not fix it I will have to send the unit in.

Also, the second time I used the unit, the GPS would not show that you were moving if going under 2mph. This was very frustrating when trying to stay over a marked spot. I called Humminbird then and they said to download the 5.41 version software and this would be fixed. Well I did and it did not fix it!

I owned a 788ci before this and never had any problems and the GPS tracking worked fine. It is ridiculous to pay over $800 for a unit and to have these kinds of issues!

I ended up cutting my trip short and came home. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had these problems and were they fixed? Thanks.

Update:  I received my new transducer and also installed the 5.5 download. Took the boat out yesterday evening. Didn't have much time, but everything seemed to work fine again. The Gps even showed I was moving at just under 1mph. Will have to try it for a longer period when I have time.
