I am mounting my first SI unit today. It's a 998 HB. We only vertical fish small manmade structures out of a stick steering boat. The unit will be mounted in the front of the boat with the transducer on the transom. We have a 571 DI on the trolling motor for actual locating the structure while fishing.
My question is which end of the boat should I mount the GPS puck on to get me the most acurate results to put me back on a small object I marked with the SI??
If you can help please reply quickly as I'm going to do the install in a couple of hours from now.
Thanks

As close to the transom transducer as you can.

Roddy is exactly right.
The further you mount the GPS puck away from the transducer, the more error you have everytime you mark a waypoint.

Thanks guys, That's what I'll do.

You probably have the GPS puck mounted by now. Here is a link to an excellent article about your situation.
Read all three parts. You can drive yourself nuts looking for something in 2D or DI that you saw in SI.
Speaking from experience here.
