Hello all... Just signed up to the forum and read through a bunch of good info. I have had my 997c SI for a little over a year and love it. I have not loved the tranducer as much. I broke the first one off just running up and down the lake. Installed the second one to the jack plate and seems to work great at the 3-5 mph speed (don't have a need to graph at much higher speeds). My issue is that now I have noticed that the wire leading into the actual tranducer has broken around the gromet that seals it to the transducer... It appears to still be working fine. Should I be worried about this and will water getting in there cause any issues? Dont want to buy a new transducer unless I really have to. One other quick question that I could not find an answer to on this forum... What is typically the best SI beam width setting... narrow? wide? Not sure if I understand or can tell a difference when I switch them. Thanks in advance for any help!

Sorry, need to clarify that the wire to the transducer is not broken, the gromet has pulled away from the tranducer leaving a gap where water can potentially get in.

Welcome to the forum.
Post a closeup picture if you can of the transducer installed. Is there a lot of stress on the wire at this point. Its made to flex, but if it has to make a sharp turn, it could lead to issues like this.
I would not be too worried about leakage unless the wire insulation is compromised. The transducer is epoxy filled and sealed. I would call humminbird and get them to send you a new one!

I will take a picture when I get home and post it. My installation on the jackplate forced the cable to be bent with some pressure. I intend to install a spacer in between to provide some relief but the damage is already done. I really just want some advice on if it will be a problem and if I can slap some marin apoxy on it... I am assuming humminbird will not replace my transducer.. maybe they will. I appreciate the help!

You could put some epoxy or marine sealant on it with no problem.

Good Day; I would dry the strain relief and the transducer well with a hair dryer and then apply some super glue to the portion of the strain relief and push it back into the transducer and let it set. In your last picture it looks like there is quite a bend in the cable right at the strain relief. Is it possible to decrease this bend as this would put too much pressure on the strain relief and cause it to pop out of the transducer.
You may also want to secure the cable close to the transducer with a cable clamp as although it's hard to see how far it is from the bottom of the boat, there could be a fair amount of turbulence in this area at speed that causing the cable to whip around.
