Title: Problem with 1198si... No image or 2D sonar reading
Post by: John Paul M. on October 29, 2012, 07:59:06 PM
I have an 1198si ram mounted at the console and it is not showing any side images. In all views the si screen is showing as a black screen and it appears the sonar is not working too. Played with the unit for 40 minutes tied to the dock to familiarize myself with the unit. The skimmer is mounted correctly and is tight. The navonix platinum chip and GPS is working correctly... Just not the other parts of the unit.

I took delivery of a 2012 Skeeter 20FX from a BASS Elite angler recently, and after getting acclumated to the boat and motor, I began to familiarize myself with the electronics. The 1198si has one disconnect 'plug' that I disconnect when I remove the unit from the mount. I'm sure the angler I purchased the boat from never removed his electronics. Would the disconnection have caused my issue and a 'reset' needs to be performed? The unit powers on so it couldnt be a fuse issue...could it? Any help would be apprectated.
Sincerely,
John M.

John Paul M.

Have you looked at all of the connector pins for the transducer to make sure none are bent or missing?  The one disconnect has three or four plugs held together to make it easy and to secure everything in place.

If you are not sure which one is the transducer you can download the manual from HB's site and also register you HB unit.  The transducer plug is the largest plug and has 7 pins.  If the pins are good then you should probably try another unit to determine if the Transducer is good or not.

I have an 1197 & 1198 and I remove my systems and place in the truck for transporting.  Others have reported bend a pins on occasion.

The transducer (or As-Si-DB-Y cable) connector will look like this John:

Thanks Greg, it is a 5 pin plug that goes into a 7 pin socket.  I looked at it this morning when I went fishing.

Thanks guys, but guess what? I found out when the sonar is turned off the side image will not work LOL. Talked to the guy who sold me the boat and he said he turns it off when just using the install grapgh in dash to limit interference. I read the manual but I guess I didnt see that one. Once its powered up I had to hit the power button again to turn on the sonar! It now works. Figured it was suppose to work when I initially turned the unit on. Thanks for the help. This sight looks great to learn more about the 1198 and 998 si's.

Glad it was a simple and inexpensive ‘fix’ John!  ;D
