Title: Helix 10 SI Screen Scrambled
Post by: danj on May 29, 2019, 10:45:25 PM
Hoping for some help. Started having an issue where my entire screen scrambles at random times. Occurs in all modes, all views, and can last for minutes or hours sometimes. Best to view the video I posted on YouTube so see what is happening. Just paid $300 for Humminbird to repair the unit, and it did not fix the issue. Occurs with sonar off, or in simulation mode. Most of the time it does not help to reboot. No other electronics are running, radio, trolling motor, etc. Been going back and forth with Humminbird and dealer for over two years.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, before this thing ends up in the river.

I would guess that your screen driver electronics is going out. The only fix is to send it back to Humminbird for repair.

Your video indicates voltage is running 11.9-12v  ...

Can you temporarily wire a battery direct to the 6' power cable supplied by HB  ...??

Bypassing the boat's wiring may determine if the unit is getting adequate amperage  ...

Yes, I think it’s the screen driver going out as well. Issue will occur regardless of voltage. The video I posted was taken three hours after I just received the unit back from Humminbird, after the charged me $300 for the repair. When I asked what they did for the repair they told me they installed latest updates and reset the unit. Ticks me off since I sent photos of what the unit was doing. I just emailed them a link to the YouTube video, and now they tell me it is corrupt data, and the solution is to delete all nav, tracks, and waypoint data. I deleted everything two years ago, when the issue first occurred. Hummingbird tells me the link on YouTube doesn’t work, but I’m guessing you guys didn’t have that issue. They’re telling me it’s corrupt data on the unit, but didn’t bother to fix it when they repaired the unit last week. They also didn’t bother to check out the video of the issue. Anyone out there ever have the issue of corrupt data causing similar screen issues?

When you previously deleted Nav data did you also reformat the Nav Directory?   If it was corrupted, just deleting data may not correct it.  Even though the specs show 10-20vdc, many have had issues with marginal power with the newer units.  Assuming they found and replaced a failed component, corrupt Nav directory or power would be my choice.

Did you ever find out what was going on. My 899 just started doing this today.

They ended up replacing the screen driver. Been working since then.
