SI viewing?
« on: November 03, 2010, 09:05:20 AM »
When looking for fish with the SI on bridge pilings...what seems to be the best set-up?  Should you drive fairly close to the pilings or be further away and at what range? I haven't really been able to see the fish that I see on other's screenshots on the web...
I'm still tweakin' and leranin' and sure appreciate the info I've acquired on this site!
Thanks
fish'

When I am not searching but want to look at a specific place or object, I set the Side Imaging range to 30' or less depending on how close I want to get.
With a closer range setting, all returns within that range appear larger than they would be with a longer range setting. It definately makes fish show up better with the shorter settings.

I shorten the range setting, increase the sensitivity up and switch to 800 KHz SI frequency.

Range is set to around 50 ft.  You want to note the depth of the water and set the range farther than the water is deep.  Perhaps 1.5 times the depth of the water.

Settings are everything.  You will find general settings that will get you started and then with usage you will get comfortable and begin to understand the effects of settings and changes. Every thing is relative and associated with each other and effects the display.

Fish,
it took a while, but finally I found it. Robert wrote an excellent thread here:

Best wishes and good luck!
