Title: Google Earth Paths to Humminbird - without PC
Post by: Teej on April 15, 2014, 07:47:35 PM
Appreciate the opportunity to join the forum.  Discovered y'all while trying to figure how to get waypoints and paths from my Google Earth places to my Humminbird 385ci.  Got all my waypoints switched over via GPS Babel, that was easey-peasey. Simply straight from .kml file to .hwr file, onto an SD and into the unit - done!

It's the routes that are giving me headaches, I'm only getting route points and not the routes themselves.

The biggest complication is I don't own a PC, only Macs so Humminbird PC isn't an option.  Yeah, yeah, I tried Crossover and that was a headache and the other Mac tool for running PC but then I've gotta buy Windows - don't want to spend the dough just for transferring routes over.

It seems it's possible to get this done via GPS Babel and use of its filters to turn tracks into routes yet I'm just not getting it.  As close as I get is converting .kml paths to GPX XML, converting that file to .hwr file - on to a SD and straight into the machine.  That only gets me the route points though - not the routes.

If anybody has experience getting these over without using Humminbird PC, let me know!  I'm near the Mosquito Lagoon and it's super skinny water in the winter - desperately need to get the routes imported over!
