Huge announcement is Great news
« on: May 05, 2015, 06:56:38 PM »
This is a HUGE announcement. If you have a core unit Humminbird and want to add an Onix you now can.

New Humminbird® Software Bridges the Gap Between ONIX® and Core Units
Latest version 2.200 software update allows anglers to network ONIX with core units, share waypoints and much more!

EUFAULA, AL (April 28, 2015) – In response to anglers’ requests to network ONIX and 800, 900 or 1100 series units on the same boat, Humminbird engineers rolled up their sleeves and started writing code.

Now, after months of caffeine-fueled sessions in the lab and on the water, Humminbird® is proud to announce Version 2.200 Software, a free download through the Humminbird Select Program that seamlessly integrates 800, 900 and 1100 Series units with ONIX.

Most notably, Version 2.200 software offers significant performance upgrades and features, including the ability to share waypoint data (and Spot-Locks) in both directions between core units and ONIX.

Another breakthrough feature of Version 2.200 software is a new waypoint list view that allows easy viewing of map areas with dense waypoint clustering, which will be of particular interest to tournament anglers and guides.

Additionally, Version 2.200 software saves anglers considerable time and frustration when transferring waypoint data from non-Humminbird sources. Via an SD card, Version 2.200 imports and automatically converts Raymarine, Lowrance, Garmin, and Google Earth waypoints, which can be immediately shared between ONIX and core units on the same network.

The Software Update Process

To begin the update process, users should first verify they have registered their product in the free Humminbird Select Program and have previously updated to Version 2.000 or 2.100 software.

Following product registration, users should download the software to their computer. Once successfully downloaded onto your PC, unzip the files on your computer before copying them to a blank 4 GB or greater Class 6 SD card. Do not rename files.

Once the files have been saved to the blank SD card, eject the card from your computer or external card reader and insert into your Humminbird unit. Please note that during the update process it is critical that you maintain continual power to your unit.

Once the installation is completed, power down the unit and restart. Following restart, users will note significantly improved speed and additional new features, including:
• Improved cartography data load times
• Faster zoom in/out on cartography
• Viewable waypoint list for map areas of dense waypoint clustering
• Faster network syncing for units with thousands of waypoints
• Current navigation track is saved in the event of power loss
• Improved waypoint accuracy on chart when waypoints are selected in sonar, Down Imaging or Side Imaging view
• Direct import of competitive TWR data (HWR, USR, GDB, MPS, KML, RWF, and GPS Babel extensions)
• AS RC1 Bluetooth Remote support
• LakeMaster PLUS support

New Features
Waypoints Sharing with Ethernet capable Coreproducts (includes 859, 899, 959, 999, 1159, 1199...)
Direct import of .HWR files from Core products and file types from other competitive products  (.USR, .GDB, .MPS, .KML, .RWF, and otherextensions supported by GPSBabel)
LakeMaster® PLUS (Aerial Photography) support
Waypoint Clustering on Chart
AS RC1 Bluetooth Remote Support (Users must restore defaults before this feature will be fully implemented)
Minn Kota® Ulterra™ trolling motor support (Stow and Deploy)
Encoder knob zooming on chart
Dynamic COG vs. Heading boat icon orientation while in Heads-Up mode
Added Spanish language to Domestic Models.
Power Menu Sonar On/Off toggle
Automatic local sonar off while in Standby Mode.
Added a Clock overlay to all panes.
Below is a summary of high profile 2.000 issues that were addressed in 2.300.   Extremely high profile issues are highlighted in Bold.

General Notes/Fixes

It is highly recommended (although not required) that users restore defaults after updating to 2.300 in order to get all of the new features included with this release. Users can export their menu settings and then reimport them after they restore defaults.
The 2.000 PATCH is now built into this software.  The 2.000 PATCH is obsolete and should not be used with a 2.300 installation.  If the 2.000 PATCH is installed on a 2.300 installation there will be no negative results but this should be avoided.
ION units will not update to 2.300 until the 2.190 PATCH is installed.  A warning message will appear on the ION if the user attempts to install 2.300 UPDATE before the 2.190 PATCH is installed. This patch addresses an issue with shutting down the GPS port on an ION before the update is applied.  This patch does not need to be applied to ONIX. If the 2.190 patch is reinstalled on a 2.300 installation or if it is installed on an ONIX installation there will be no negative results but this should be avoided.
 AutochartLive/Mosaic

Fixed an issue where large amounts of AutochartLive data was taking a long time to appear on chart.   During this time LakeMaster data would not draw on the chart.
Fixed an issue where the save location for Autochart Live data was not changing if a ZeroLine card was inserted while Autochart Live recording was off.
Fixed several issues saving and loading SI Mosaic data.
Fixed several issues with the Load Mosaic Tool.
Chart/Cartography/GPS/Tracks, Waypoints and Routes (further referred to as TWR)

Fixed an issue where cartography cards were not appearing on remote units after synced restarts until after the cartography card was ejected and then reinserted.
Improved the Heads Up / COG Up chart orientation update rate in LakeMaster
Improved the Heads Up / COG Up chart orientation update rate in Navionics
Multiple Chart, Current Track, Saved Track performance improvements:
Fixed an issue where Current Tracks and Saved Tracks were causing significant system resource issues.
Fixed an issue where saving a Current Track was causing significant system resource issues.
Fixed an issue where a power lose could cause some of the Current Track to be lost.
Fixed an issue where a full Current Track could cause the Chart or the Current Track to crash or stop drawing.
Fixed an issue where importing Saved Track was causing significant system resource issues.
Improved the Boat Icon update rate is all Orientation modes while in Humminbird (Lakemaster), Navionics, or CMAP chart modes.
Removed the Motion Mode Status Bar touch target to avoid customer confusion.  This status bar item is now just an indicator.  Motion Mode must now be changed from Chart Options / Preferences / Motion Mode.
Removed COG from the Orientation Status Bar touch target to avoid customer confusion.  This orientation option still exists in the Chart Options / Preferences / Orientation menu.
Removed Chart Rotation as an Orientation option – this feature may be re-introduced later.
Fixed an issue where gap points from imported competitive tracks were not being processed correctly.
Fixed an issue where depth was not correctly being recorded into the Current Track.
Fixed several issues that could cause the GPS to be unnecessarily lost.
Fixed an issue where the ruler was not correctly measuring the distance between point A and point B on the chart.
Fixed an issue where the cartography data was not being reloaded if a pane was Maximized or Normalized.
Fixed an issue where the cursor focus would be lost on the Smartstrike Tool if the tool was opened with an active cursor memory cursor.
SONAR

Fixed anissue on the Sonar Modules where SI Range would always restart in Auto Mode and never retain Manual Mode settings.
Fixed an issue where CHIRP could cause “ghosting” in the bottom return of DI.
Fixed an issue where panning back and forth through 2D or DI sonar history could cause the Cursor to become lost.
Fixed an issue on Sonar where zooming with theruler would cause the ruler points to scale incorrectly while zoomed.
Fixed an issue where waypoints marked with a Zoom Cursor would not appear on the sonar graph.
Fixed an issue where Sonar Overlays were not syncing across the network (user must restore defaults with 2.300 software before this fix will be implemented).
Fixed multiple issues where sonar graph would skip, interlace, or halt due to CPU resource issues.
Fixed several issues where 2D, DI, or SI sonar could crash requiring a restart if multiple new views were created or edited.
Fixed several issues with waypoints displaying on Sonar.
Fixed several issues with marking waypoints on SI.
Navigation/i-Pilot Link

Fixed several cases where iTracks Record was being grayed out in the user interface.
Fixed an issue where chart assets and back end calculations where not being updated if the current navigation leg was moved by the user.
Network/System/UI/Tools

Fixed several Russian, Dutch, and Spanish translation issues.
Fixed several International language translations issues with the Timer Tool.
Fixed an issue where back end menus would appear temporarily or permanently on the top level application.
Fixed an issue where Internal GPS would not connect on the boot cycle after restoring defaults or switching from Simulator to Normal mode.
NMEA 0183/NMEA 2000®

Fixed an issue where NMEA 0183 data was not being nulled/zeroed out if it was invalid.
Fixed an issue where the GPRMC and INRMC sentence was not indicating a valid GPS fix state thus causing some 3rd party NMEA 0183 devices to not display SOG correctly.
Fixed an issue where NMEA 2000 could take up too much CPU resources.
RADAR

Fixed anissue where RADAR panes were very slow if substantial amounts of TWR data was loaded.
Fixed an issue where RADAR Guardian and Anti-Collision were not synced across the network.
FUSION®

Increased the ONIX/ION to FUSION response time while adjusting FUSION Tool menus.
Wireless//Hotspot/Browser

Fixed several issues that were causing connectivity or user interface issues with Wi-Fi™ and Hotspot connections.

Iit looks like only the core units ending in 9,  the 7's & 8's are not listed.  Can only hope that this isn't so.

This is Humminbird's way:
They come out with new features and purposely only let those features work with newer base units.
They want everybody to keep buying new base units.

In response to anglers requests?  Like they didn't realize everyone with an older unit would want to network it with their new one?  Um, okay.

This is the exact same thing as the 360 not being compatible with the 1197.
Humminbird said it was because the 1197 wasn't powerful enough.
I have an 1198, and can't see much difference than the 1197 as far as system boot-up speed, and screen refreshes.  Except that the 1198 can use the 360 (because it's allowed through the software).
My guess is, they want customers to buy one of the newer units about every 3 years.
