Title: Dual Transducer Setup for Bassboat application
Post by: kjaquith on March 25, 2010, 06:54:59 PM
Best transducer for high speed in dual transducer setup.  Plan on mounting Side Imaging transducer at back of boat but have been told to run a 2nd transducer preferably shoot through hull for high speed.  A puck mount in the hull is prefered

is this what I need?   XP 9 20T

2nd question.

Is it best to run this off the side imaging Y cable (AS_SIDBY)   or with a switch?

Thanks,

Kevin

Kevin,
Depending on whether you want to use the switch or the splitter Y-cable would determine which transducer you want to get.

Most folks don’t want to have to mess with having to mount than flip the switch when they need it and so go for the splitter Y-cable:
XP-9-20 inside-the-hull DualBeam transducer
AS-Si-DB-Y transducer splitter cable
This is the less expensive option.  The 2D sonar will always come from the inside-the-hull transducer.  Si sonar and water temperature will always come from the Si transducer.

If you want the switch than you need:
TS2-W Transducer Switch
XP-9-20-T inside-the-hull DualBeam transducer with temperature sensor on the end of a 10-foot cable
All sonar and water temp will come from whichever transducer the switch is toggled to.

Hello Kevin and welcome to the forum!

1. Right, this would be the transducer you need to shoot through the hull:

2. The AS-SIDBY cable will do.

Kevin,

This is what is in my boat
1197C SI at the consoule
The HDSI transducer at the back of the boat in the center
XP-9-20 inside-the-hull DualBeam transducer
AS-Si-DB-Y transducer splitter cable

This is on an 18'6" Triton with a 150 HP Mercury with an 8" jack plate.  The nice thing about the jack plate is it allows me to trim the motor all the way down and still have plenty of space between the motor and the transducer.  You can look at the installation pics of mine if you are interested.

With all of this said I can keep the bottom to speeds around 40 mph with no problems, between 40 and 50 it is stetchy but seems to pick up the bottom from time to time. 50 to 60+ there is nothing.  Having said all of that it also will pay to set the max depth on your unit to something around 200 feet as it will help you pick the bottom back up quicker as you come down off plain.

Hope this helps,

Ben

Looks like the tranducer is a bit high..  but it seems to be working for you. Although maybe what I am seeing is the trailer and not the actual boat bottom.   Keep us up dated on how this configuration is working.  chuck
