After a summer of use, here are some things I have discovered. (Software version 4.970.)
1. The default view on power-up is not chart/side combo per the manual. It depends on the view I was in when I powered down. Sometimes comes up full screen sonar, sometimes full screen down imaging.
2. The GPS diagnostic view often shows estimated position error of 2 or 3 feet. I'm not convinced GPS can be that accurate. Maybe I'm wrong.
3. Whenever the chart view is displayed, course and speed readouts override "off" readouts. I'm not a fan of lots of readouts in most cases. I just want digital depth displayed at the top left corner. If I turn 'em off, they should stay off.
4. In the chart view, the boat icon is located in the middle of the screen. I'm not much interested in what's behind the boat. If the icon were 3/4 of the way or more to the bottom of the screen, I'd have a better view of the waters ahead of me. Maybe this is the way all GPS screens work, but it just doesn't seem logical to me.
5. Sonar sensitivity adjustment is too difficult to get to when in any combo view.
6. In auto depth range, if I'm fishing 25 to 35 feet of water, the sonar display changes from 30-foot range to 40-foot range and back as I go deeper and shallower. If I want to go to a manual range locked in at 40 feet, I also have to set the SI range to 40 feet or less. It's cumbersome and annoying. SI range and sonar range are independent in the auto mode, why not in manual?
