Help interpreting images first time out
« on: October 15, 2014, 08:04:54 AM »
Hello,
I recently installed my new 398ci on my kayak and got a chance to take it out to a canal near the intracoastal in New Smyrna beach. The transducer is mounted on a bracket attached to the rudder gudgeon on the stern of my kayak and sits about 2.5 inches from the bottom of the keel. I think I may need to lower it so it sits deeper in the water as I suspect the black horizontal lines are caused by the transducer popping out of the water. I would like help interpreting the images, as I am not sure of some of the things I am seeing. Is that bait in snap6? Also, are the white masses near the boat track turbulence from my paddle strokes? I would appreciate any input and feedback.

Thanks

Yes, your transducer is popping in and out of the water. yes you are seeing your paddle strokes.  Try lowering the transducer.  Chuck

Your DI images in Humviewer are defaulting to show all...

Right click on the DI pane and change the "Crop to" setting to allow less of the bottom detail to show ... While stretching the water column over more of the DI image ...(that is unless you are specifically wanting to see more of the bottom detail in the Di image and less water column)...

The "valley looking" item in the last photo looks like something manmade ... Do you know what it is that you can share...??

The last photo is the foundation of a bridge I passed under. Thanks for the tip I will crop the DI view in the future. I think I will build something similar to this for my transducer to solve the depth problem. http://bit.ly/1F2sfCG

agree with the interpretations.  the idea for mounting the transducer looks like a good one...also notice it is mounted in the bow of the boat and this will eliminate the paddle strokes... unless your going backwards.
