Boat Icon
« on: March 19, 2016, 03:43:41 PM »
I have an 898 unit on my console, I have an 859 unit on my bow with the GPS Receiver/Heading Sensor
(AS GPS HS)
Sensor with internal GPS Receiver and
Compass connected to it. I have a terrova with Ipilot connected to it and everything is connected via Ethernet. My issue is that as I run the boat my boat icon is showing up going sideways. I have read through the manuals and the FAQ's and I cant find anything that solves my problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This issue can sometimes be attributed to magnetic interference affecting the internal magnetic compass in the AS GPS HS antenna ...

You can use a small handheld magnetic compass to verify if the current mounting spot is being affected by nearby metals or the TM internal magnets ...

Doug explains this in the following YouTube video ...:

Thanks for replying, rnvinc. I watched the video. If I understand what he is saying , it may be that as I am moving in the boat the icon will always point in a north direction. Not sure what that does for me and it sure looks strange as you view the display.

I assume that the arrow on your AS GPS HS antenna is pointing toward the bow. I would first try turning the AS GPS HS antenna arrow 90 degrees to the right  or to the left.  I suppose that it is possible that the arrow that is on the AS GPS HS antenna is facing the wrong direction.

I mounted one on a pole set-up I have. Make sure that the arrow is pointing forward. I didn't at first see it. If you want I can post a pic of my set-up. It works just great. My only problem is that  the small creeks and rivers we fish here are not on any of the poplar chips. Other wise its great.

fshndude. Under the chart menu look for the chart detail tab. It probably is set to "all". It really does not mean all. Change it to "custom and go all the way down the list till you see "nature of seabed" and select it. Go back to your map and see if the creek channels show up. Good Luck Bob
