Title: 967cx 3D vs. 788cxi DI HD - river fishing - recommendations?
Post by: osorno on October 08, 2012, 07:08:46 AM
Dear all,
Me and my cousin want to invest in a good sonar to fish on a river that had depths up to 45 ft and that has a rapidly changing bottom structure.
As I read the 788 gives the advantage of side imaging and on the other hand the 967 gives the 3D image of the bottom. I haven't seen these two in action - but it seems that they are pretty close in terms of the results they deliver.
I would be grateful for someone who has more knowledge about the subject to give us some advice on which of the two to go for - the prices are almost the same,
Thanks,
Lucas

Lucas,

The 788cXi HD unit has conventional 2D sonar only.
The 798cXi HD Si unit has the Side Imaging sonar.

I recommend that you see these units in action before buying.  The 967cX 3D displays a wire frame type display for its 3D sonar display.  Most people cannot understand what the unit is showing them.  The Si sonar on the other hand is much easier to understand.  Also; we haven’t built the 967c 3D units since about 2009 and there hasn’t been a software update for this unit since March of 2011.  I just don’t know how much support we can provide for this older model unit.
