997 SI Data Card Specifications
« on: April 21, 2016, 12:50:26 PM »
Hi.  I have a 997C SI that I have used primarily for the sonar and back up Nav.  I decided to start using more of the nav and moving my numbers onto the machine, but it will not read my SD card.

I have now tried two cards.

1. 32GB, 80MB/s speed and SDHC1.
2. 4GB, SDHC

Anyone if these cards should be working and if not, what are the right specs?

Thanks.....

Try taking a screenshot to verify if the card slots are correctly writing data to the inserted SD Card ...

You will have to enable screenshots under the Accessories tab in the Main Menu System ...

Screenshots can be taken in Normal or Simulator ...

Thank you.  I did try the screen shot as my first test which is how I was able to tell the cards are not working.  When I try the screen shot I always get "no writable MMC/SD card found"

Is the "write protect" switch locked on the SD Card ...??  It's on the left edge of the SD Card itself ...

Are you getting the same message in both slots ... ??

Rickie,

The card is not locked and I get the same message using both slots. I have a feeling the SDHC card is not compatible.  Maybe the system needs an older type of SD card.  Since Humminbird references MMC I have a feeling the unit needs older technology.  My research indicates that MMC was the original SD card technology.

If anyone has SDHC working I their unit, that will help me eliminate that variable.

I found this that Greg posted a long time ago ...

If you have some really old software in your 997 unit - and I’m talking older than 3.720 here, than you will have to use an SD card to update your unit as one of the updates with the 3.720 version software was the programming to allow the unit to use the SDHC type memory cards.

Do you know what version of software is in your 997 ... ??

That's probably my problem.  I checked and the unit has version 3.66.  Going to dig up on older SD card and see if I can get it updated.

Thanks...
