Hi all, another newy here. Can anyone help with some suggestions to this problem, which is my 597 is dull and using the adjuster through the on/off button makes no difference. I also have seen a low voltage prompt displayed but the battery is well charged. I have reset default settings but no difference. Would it help to remove sd card and is there any upgrade or something else?

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums australis.

By “dull” I am assuming you are meaning that the display is not bright even with the backlight turned all the way up.  I would check all of the electrical connections from the unit all the way back to the battery that the 597ci HD unit is powered from.  Any loose or corroded connections (even on the fuse, fuse holder or battery connection) will rob the unit of the power (Voltage AND Current) that it needs.

You may want to try testing your 597ci HD unit on someone else’s boat that has a Humminbird 300, 500 or 700 series unit (as long as it is not a DI model unit) to see if yours looks any better on their boat and if theirs looks worse on your boat.

Thanks for the advice. I have tracked the wires back to the battery and have to say they look great (which I expected as the boat and humminbird are only 10 hours old). I have learnt that the back light goes to power saving mode once started as was wondering if this might be the case with mine, except i am yet to see how bright the screen should be which is very disappointing..

There is no power saving mode for the backlight.
Make sure that it is turned all the way up.
Try testing your unit on someone else’s boat as per above.
