Title: Am I getting interference with my 898?
Post by: Agrims on April 26, 2016, 09:21:03 AM
Hello!  I bought a new 898c SI at a West Marine  back in January for a really good price.  I have installed it according to the instructions, and took it out for the opening of striper season here in the bay.  I had a 788c on the boat before and it worked like a charm, just too small a screen for me.  I believe that I am getting interference on my screen, as the 2d, DI, and SI all show these fuzzy lines that go through the screen diagonally while the boat is running at trolling speed.  It also doesn't give me a really strong return from the bottom either, as the bottom line is maybe 3 sheets of paper thick, whereas my 788 it was half and inch or more thick.  I have tried settings for hours to no avail, and the only thing that helps is setting the filter to high 3, which makes basically no returns.  I also have a problem in that the temp sensor shows that it is unconnected, but my unit is the high def. transducer with temp on it.  The unit is installed on a 176 Lowe Fishing Machine, which is all aluminum and there are no rivets on the hull.  Please help!

To verify if there is electrical interference ... Shut off everything in the boat except the unit ... This includes shutting off big motor, bilge pumps, lights, aerators ... basically setting the boat adrift ...

If the screen clears up ... Turn on electrical items one at a time until the culprit is identified ...

Also try Restore Defaults ... and possibly crosstest your unit on another boat or their unit on your boat ...

Please post back with results ...
