I designed this mount for the 998 side image transducer. I have had the ears break off of 3 of them last year and they are too expensive to replace. This mount allows for the mounting of a new transducer or a broken one. If your ears have broken off you can take it to a machine shop and have them install a hole 1/2" below the old one in the ears. This mount breaks away and then will reset easily with the push of a hand. The mount protests the unit by making it break away if hit from either end and takes all the stress off the ears and disperses the load of a hit through the entire body instead of just the ears. I am just seeing if there is interest in something like this, please let me know what you think!

Dang! Now I like that. That is sweet.
-
Yes....I for one fish in one local lake that is infested in cypress logs and stumps. Make it happen!!!!
-
Looks like a winner. Buying one would depend on the price.
Sell me one cheap and I will help you with the testing. ;D
I would like to mount mine low without worrying about it.
Do you get air bubbles/turbulence from the front of the holder? Looks like the transducer is set up a little inside the mount rather than being flush.
-
I really like it but I have a 798. Really good concept and design if you ask me.
-
Yes I am very interseted for the custom transducer mount.

Old Crappie,
You are the only one that has expressed any interest. Thank You! Due to economy of scale it just isn't something I can build one at a time. Due to the lack of interest I am going to put the design away for a rainy day. Maybe sometime in the future.
-
Not quite, I'd love to have one if the price is reasonable and it fits my transducer (standard ducer for 798ci DI). Of course I do understand the economies of scale. FWIW I think the design is outstanding and if I were HB I'd be jumping at trying to work with you for a patent. It is clearly better than anything they have to offer. Kudo's to you for the design! Hope you get more interest. BTW, no disrespect for HB here. I think their units are outstanding but clearly their mounts are lacking.

I might be interested too, depending on the price. And actually i think you would sell it pretty good. No idea if i'm right but i would guess that you can sell 50 of them in a few month easily.. There are lots of owners of such an unit, and the transducer is really expensive.
Greetings,
Del

I like it too, but the price point would be a problem. You might want to consider alternative materials.
-
That's a neat idea.
-
I believe there is more interest than you think. I am surprised transducer sheild and saver hasn't designed one like that for the transom.
If you are going to do it, I will do it now while you have the nitch...it may disappear later.
-
Thinking out loud here...just my 2 cents...I haven't seen a price posted anywhere. If I missed that, I apologize for being dumb and blind. Just from the picture I've seen here the design looks very well thought out and I'd probably be willing to pay $50 - $60 without much thought assuming all components are rust proof (ie aluminum and stainless construction). Much above that and I'd have to look at building my own.
-
Thanks for the input gentlemen. I really appreciate it. I will have to get serious about making them it looks like. I am in process of filing a patent for the holding method and the breakaway mechanism. I will let you know the price soon.

Yes I really like your idea.
Good luck with the patent.
Question. . . How does your unit work on your Lund?
I had a Lowrance LCX 28c HD on the console. That was nothing but trouble, as the depth would flash on and off while on plane. After a new transducer, rewiring, and moving the transducer many times it will read at about 25MPH. At full throttle it will flash again.
Now I have the 998 for the SI and 2d sonar. Using the Lowrance for waypoints and mapping.
With only making one transducer adjustment on the 998 I do not lose the bottom on plane. But have not gone to full throttle yet. Wish I could stop the spray that gets my main while underway.
Thanks

Hp makes a plug to stop the spray, give CS a call.
-
Not for the larger HDSi transducer Roddy. He will need to either raise the transducer up (which will probably cause it to stop reading at fast boat speeds or make his own homemade transducer plug to close off that area.
-
Greg, My bad. Home fix tube RTV. Roddy
-
No problem Roddy.
I would just watch that RTV does not react with the plastic. I have seen duct tape used quite effectively as a fix as well.
-
Greg, Man you realy are from LA. Roddy
-
Gup,
good luck with the patent. Let us know your progress and price if you go into production. I'd love one if it will accomodate a 798 transducer (standard).

Did this bracket ever become available?
-
nice bracket but the one trans shield saver makes and sales looks identical and I bought it for 75 its machined from a single piece of aluminum still a nice bracket I'm just sayin
