I recently Updated both of my 859CI HD DI units to 7.460. Now when I try to start them as soon as I get to the press exit to start screen the units shut down. This happens on both units. I reset all factory settings before upgrading. We tried this same update on my cousins unit which is the same. We get the same results. Apparently Humminbird knows nothing about this (Go figure). Any help would be much appreciated.

If you can try downloading the code again on a fresh sd card. And then try the update again. Hopefully the HB computer shutdown will not be an issue with your units. another thing is see if the dealer has the restore program at their shop and save you the expense of sending to HB. Some folks have had success with the HBPC restore program but that means you will have to have the cables and the program. which is why I suggested a while back to make the dealers have this to help you and support the product...

I have tried several different sd cards and no luck. Humminbird sent me a downgrade. I will see if that works. Just out of curiosity, Can you use the AS PC3 cable to do the upgrade? It would sure be nice if you could rather than having to go to my boat and hook everything up to do this again.

The AS PC3 cable is only for updating units that do not have a SD Card slot ...
Are you sure you have adequate power to the units ...??
With both units acting the same ... The common thing would be SD Card or power source ...(not sure about your cousin's part tho) ...
Try the downgrade and post back ...

Positive on the power source all is good there. Same with my cousin's boat. Power is definitely not the problem. And like I said in my earlier post, I have tried several different SD cards all brand new and all formatted with SD formatter.

Sounds like you've done everything correctly ...
Let us know how the downgrade goes ...(If the units will even let you) ...

A couple of things I forgot to mention ...
It's a good idea to disconnect any Ethernet accessories and remove any mapping cards from the unit when updating ...
I think it's just less work for the unit when it can focus on the update process ... (Fact or fiction I really don't know ... But it doesn't hurt) ...

Is warranty going to cover your issues? i just bought an 859c hd di saturday for my 360 and was going to update it tomorrow but now i am not sure what to do. Does anyone know if it will run the 360 without updating? Not sure what the software version is on it now but 360 is on the simulation mode. Thanks!

Yes warranty will cover it. Not up until March so I am good there.

The funny thing is is that it is saying it is at 7.460 but still reboots. I am going to have to send it back to hummingbird because I am not able to downgrade it like they asked.

bkinsey more info on this problem, I have a 959 brand new updated to the 7.46, it fished fine for about 3 weeks, was a little weird at times. However this weekend while fishing, I shut it down and then decided to try one more spot. It did exactly as your stated. Starts gets to verbiage, I hit exit, then it says shutting down and is hung in a loop! Very frustrating, and of course HB is closed today, so I can't even get a RMA and ship it next day air so they can get it fixed.
I have just upgraded from a 958, so I could run a 360, have over 800 hours and multiple software upgrades on the 958, I am pretty sure it is a software bug because I haven't changed how I do anything. Also it fished find for a few weeks. It has been glitchy though.

I had a similar problem with my 998 HD SI , it just started acting up out of the blue. It wasn't due to an update as it was working great for about 8 months then wouldn't turn on and stay on. I sent it to HB and they fixed it. It has worked great ever since, I hope you have the same luck.

More info! I next day aired my 959 for service on Tuesday, it shows shipped and is out for delivery to me!! Very nice turn time IMHO!
Hopefully it is fixed and no more problems. All it said on the ticket was "software", I have asked for clarification, hopefully they can tell me what the real problem was.

Had my 899 out Jan 02 for a trip with no issues, I sure hope it keeps running!

The 1st ones that shipped had malfunctioning 800 KHz imaging, it was sent in for the hardware repair - other than that being gone for a week it has worked very well indeed.
