My wish for the helix 12 chirp
« on: October 25, 2015, 09:10:35 AM »
Do you think that it possible for the helix 12 ,with its built in chirp, be able to chirp the existing  360 455khz piezo that humminbird already has?The 360 is filled with oil,so I'm  thinking that there wouldn't  be an issue with over heating. The bennifit  would be extended  range. Such as in this picture.....

I think chirp will be only for 2D.

The way that I interpret  the specs, for helix 12 ,on the humminbird website is,there is no transducer option from humminbird. There just going to ,use the chirp technology  to allow the control head to jog the amount of current  to there existing stock transducers,to get chirp lite.To get, full chirp, one would have to purchase an airmar chirp transducer, which would be pretty  expensive. If I'm  correct, why not just do the same, with the 360.At least that would produce some beneficial  results,at no extra  cost. (imo)

Here's what I'm thinking, but I could be wrong.......Since the 360 is an Ethernet accessory, the transducer drivers would have to be in the 360 itself ..... I don't think the pinging would be controlled directly by the Helix unit.....There is just Ethernet communications to get instructions and data back and forth.
Kind of like the SM2000 and 3000 boxes.

I think what you are suggesting would require a different kind of 360.
**Looking for the one that makes it all worthwhile**

The specs on the HELIX 12 indicate the unit comes stock with the same XHS 9 HDSI 180 T as all the other larger SI units (except Onix) ...

It also indicates a separate xducer purchase is necessary to achieve 28kHz -250kHz ... But it does not indicate if this is an AIRMAR xducer or if HB has built their own proprietary CHIRP capable xducer ...or if HB is going to transmit this frequency sweep signal thru any of their xducers from the current product lines for CHIRP Lite...
