899c Card Reader Issue
« on: January 04, 2014, 02:26:43 AM »
I have two cards for my new 899c unit.  One freshly empty fat32 formatted SD card and One Lake Master Card.   The issue I am having is that both cards work in the right slot, but if I plug either one into the left slot the unit will not finish booting.   The system just stays at the yellow bird screen.

I have looked at a lot of posts.   I see one saying look to see under Charts what memory slot is selected or select to Auto.   My system does not have this option under Charts or anywhere else that I can see.

I also don't see any new updates for this unit on the HB site.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All the best,

Jon Summy

Can you boot the unit without either card in....??

After bootup...can you install either card in the left slot and it work properly...??

The "Chart Select" setting is the 3rd setting down under the "Chart" tab in the main menu system...

Hi Rickie,

Yes,

If you pull any of the cards out of the left slot the system will boot up.

I did finally find the select chart setting.  I had to boot the system up and then push a map card into a slot for it to show up.

I put it on all of the different setting and rebooted with cards in and if anything is in the left slot it will not boot.

Both cards will boot in the right side slot.

I am going to call HB on Monday and see if they can lend any help.

Best,

Jon

Called HB....they said they had never heard of such an issue.    So, they offered for me to send it in for free.

I called BPS and they said no don't send it in....bring it in.

We put both cards in and without the transducer the unit would boot with a card in both slots.

They swapped out heads.   I brought home the new head and it booted fine with both cards in and transducer plugged in.

So, I am not sure the true answer....I think the head might have had an issue.    The new head is working great with everything plugged in.

Thanks for the help!  And a big shout out to BPS.     I bought their gear guard and used it....it worked great and well worth the money.

Best,

Jon Summy
