798ci di si transducer mount location HELP!
« on: April 12, 2014, 11:28:47 PM »
I have a 798ci di si and am not sure where to mount the transducer.  I have a 16" lowe mod-V aluminum boat.  The install directions say to mount it on the starboard side since the prop spins clockwise and to stay 15" away from the prop.  I only have 2 possible locations on the starboard side because of ridges on bottom of boat, drain holes and such.  The first location is about 6 inches from the prop and an inch or so from the biggest ridge which also houses the drain hole.  I can put it 15" from the prop if I cut down the bunk board but will be 4-5" from the edge of the boat. Is that a problem?  There is a great spot to mount it about 12" from the prop and centered between ridges but it is on the port side.  Which of these would be the best location? I am uploading some pictures.  The big blue pieces of tape indicate possible mount locations.  The small pieces indicate where the ridges are on the bottom of the boat.

Thanks

I think the 15" spec is for stern drive applications...

With outboards...make sure...:

*The motor doesn't hit the xducer at full left or right lock...
*The xducer is not directly in front of prop where it can cause the prop to spin out from aerated water off the xducer...

*With your boat being a flat bottom...any of those positions would probably work..
*Port or starboard is not going to really matter for your small motor...
*Definitely keep the xducer between ribs and hopefully out of direct line from rivets or other hull features that can create air bubbles that pass the xducer...

You might think about temp mounting the xducer to a board and C clamp it to the transom for testing...

Some guys even glue Starboard to the transom so that the xducer can be moved until the optimum position is determined...
