Topic: ethernet vs interlink ?????

I thought the only way to link my 998 and 958 together was through the interlink. Appearantly there is an ethernet connection ?? All i want is for my waypoints to be shared. Can ethernet do this? What are the pros and cons of each?

The 998 and 958 can be connected via InterLink or Ethernet.

InterLink
Pros: Can be used with older model units that do not have an Ethernet connection.  Can share Waypoints and Routes between units.  Can share data between units for some accessories like the WeatherSense.  Further expansion of features/functions may not be possible.
Cons: More expansive.  Harder to rig/more cables.  Does not work between units that have older and newer software than 5.310.  Cannot share sonar.

Ethernet
Pros: Less expensive.  Easier to install (one cable).  Can share sonar, GPS data and Temperature sensor data.  Expandable for additional use.
Cons: Cannot share data between accessories.

This cable is not included with the units correct? where can i find the schematics for this?

No the Ethernet connection cable is not included with the unit.  You will need to buy the Ethernet Connection Cable in the length you need.  It comes in 2, 10, 20 or 30 foot lengths: AS-EC-2E,  AS-EC-10E,  AS-EC-20E or AS-EC-30E.

Are you wanting an actual schematic of the connection cable itself or how to connect the two units?

Yes, it might be nice to have the pinout.  Even though HB does not supply cable and connectors independentally of each other, there are connector on the market...

well sonar2000 wants a pin out so yeah thats good to have if you have it. All i need is the drawing kind of like humminbird puts out for the interlink and what wires you put where. The pin out would be great too.

I uploaded the Humminbird Ethernet Installation & Operations Manual to the downloads > Documents portion of the web site.  That will show the proper connections for the Ethernet (simple single cable connected from the Ethernet connector on each unit).

I don’t have a pin-by-pin drawing of what each connection does but I do have the following.  Since these are standard Ethernet connections someone should be able to find what each connection does on the Internet.

Thanks, this will be a great additon to the library.
Pinouts are becoming more of an interest item these days.
And probably more tomorrow with ethernet just being explored in HB.
