Topic: 798 Not Seeing Interlink

I have on my boat a 798 at the console and a 997 on the trolling motor.  A while back I was having problems with the Interlink, contacted Customer Service and got the 4.995 Beta software.  I installed this on both units and all was good.

Well now the 798 no longer sees the Interlink.  I have restored defaults on both units, re-installed the 4.995 Beta software with no luck. 

Today I tried the 5.210 for the 798 with the 5.320 for the 997 and still nothing on the 798. 

Any thoughts appreciated.   Not a show stopper, but the Interlink is worthless right now.

Please describe exactly how you have your unit set up. Which unit in which port on interlink etc. Do you have GPS hooked to Interlink or to one of the units?  Are you sharing GPS?

Break everything down to the basics. Just the units and interlink.  Remove any accessories, or Accessory Y cables hooked to the unit. Check all the cable connections and make sure they are correct. Try powering on the 798 first and see what happens.

Try switching cables around, etc.

Do you have a friend or someone who has an interlink or 798 they could hook up to see if it connects.

All I can suggest is basic trouble shooting to what is causing the problem.

I have both units with their own GPS antenna.  The 997 is connected to the #1 port on the Interlink, the 798 to #2.  I have no additional accessories in the system other than the second transducer on the Y-cable to the 798.

Off hand I don't have anyone I can swap around with, and the downside is my 798 is in the console.  It can come out, but it is not fun!

I will go back through it this weekend and see what happens.   I have read where there is a reset procedure for the Interlink, but have not gone that far yet.

Eddie,
Try switching the 997 to the #2 port position on the InterLink.
Also check the Accessory Test View to see if the InterLink is being recognized by both units.
I would try resetting the InterLink if that does not help.
If all else fails, try calling the Humminbird Customer Resource folks next week. 1-800-633-1468.

Greg, I will give that a try today.  This morning I sent Rhonda Green a note back about the 4.995 updates.  Here is what I sent to her today:

Okay it has been a few months since you sent me this and I apologize for not getting you some feedback.

Initially I went through all of the steps per your email and all systems were go.

Until a couple of months ago.  I noticed the 798 was no longer recognizing the Interlink.  I shut down the units (I think I did?), unplugged and reset the connections at the Interlink, still nothing.

I pulled the Interlink out, rechecked my connections, still nothing.

Over the past week or so, I have done the following:

Installed the latest software on both the 798 and 997, no Interlink on the 798, 997 syncs and sees it fine.

I then went back, restored defaults and re-installed the 4.995 on both units, no Interlink on the 798, 997 syncs and sees it fine.

Today I went in and installed older software on both units, no Interlink on the 798, 997 syncs and sees it fine.  Then went in and re-installed the 4.995 on both, still nothing on the 798.

I also unplugged the connections on the back of the 798 and reconnected last night.

When doing this I have been turning on the 997 first, updating it and then shutting it down before I do the update on the 798.

Since I sent this I thought, "what the heck", I reinstalled the latest updates.  Still nothing on the 798.

On the status screen it shows Interlink disconnected on the 798. 

One more question, how do you reset the Interlink??

Thanks for your help guys.  I owe you a coffee, at least.

Update from 2/13/11, okay went through and deleted all Nav data, reset the Interlink(? found it on an old post Eddie @ Humminbird), still no connection to the 798.  Am I at the point of calling CS and sending the Interlink back to be checked?  I think I am.

Had similar problems with my 788ci and 798ci after installing 5.210 software and then going back to 4.960.  Neither unit would recognize the interlink so I couldn't reset it since you have to be able to participate or not in the accessories tab...I was sent the 4.995 beta software and this did not help either.  Now both units and interlink are at Humminbird.  Hope they figure this out quickly!
