There are some connection drawing around that show a AS-YC cable used to keep the GPS antenna connected to the 998. Suppose to have better GPS refresh rates. I think it helps the disconnection problem too.

I think your 898 already comes with the "Y"cable. Mine did.

Someone else will chime in that knows for sure.

Found it....Lets see if this works....

Bigbassbuck,
What software version are you running in the 747 unit?  [Current version is 4.740].

Try connecting the 747 up to the 998’s cables but unplug the GPS Receiver from the Interlink first (the 747 cannot produce enough current to run the GR50 GPS Receiver that came with your 998 unit) and see if it shows the InterLink as connected.

Do you have a WeatherSense Barometer or know someone who does or that has the older GR16 GPS Receiver?  My fear here is that at some point you tried to power the InterLink and therefore the GR50 GPS Receiver with the 747 unit which caused the accessory bus circuitry to burn up.

Yes the AS-YC cable is packaged with the 998c Si unit and every sonar-GPS Combo unit that we make or have made.

You will have to get the PC Connect cable to update the 747.

Did you ever try connecting the 747c to the 998’s cables but unplug the GPS Receiver first?  Look at the Accessory Test menu when you do this and see what it is showing for the InterLink (Connected or Unconnected).

I tried that and the 998 says connected, the 747c says unconnected,so is there something wrong with the 747c

That’s what it sounds like.  With the 747 connected to a known good connection that leaves only the 747c unit itself as the possible cause.  My guess is as before that the accessory output circuitry got overloaded and failed.  This is why we do not recommend using the 747c in combination with the more power hungry GR50 GPS Receiver.

I have a 788 and 998.  They work very well together interlinked.

The 788 is the only non-Si color unit that is anything like the 747c unit you have.  I think that you will like it better than the 747c as it has a few more features plus a nicer display as well.  It will also come with its own GPS Receiver so you could have each unit connected to its own GPS Receiver and yet still connected to the InterLink.

An option would be to have the 747c repaired and purchase an AS-GR16 GPS Receiver.  Connect the AS-YC cable that came with your 998 unit to the unit, GR50 you have now and the InterLink but wait to power it on.  Connect the GR16 GPS Receiver to the 747c unit using the AS-YC cable that will come with the GR16 and also connect it to the 747c unit and InterLink.  Power the 747c on and set the GPS Override Menu (found under the Nav menu tab) to the “External GPS” setting.  Power on the 998 unit and do the same.  Now both units will have the faster GPS refresh rate and the 747c will not be powering the GR50 GPS Receiver.
