Title: Ethernet or Interlink? 798ci SI to a 1000 series

Hi All... new guy here!

So i recently purchased a used boat and I will be installing a Humminbird 798Ci SI unit from my Kayak on the boat. I will be purchasing an extra transduser and mount for my boat so whenever I need the unit I can just remove it from my kayak as needed. So here is my question(s).

On the from of my Boat i plan on putting a 1100 SI unit, same unit I already have just larger screen for the most part, and I plan on putting the 798Ci SI by the cockpit of the boat.

The 798ci SI will be connected to the transducer on the back of my boat and the other unit will be connected to the bow mount trolling motor.

My buddy (who doesnt know much about these FFers) mentioned that I should connect both units via ethernet cable so the can share info. He also mentioned to me about Interlink, which I believe is much different then just a straight ethernet connection to both units.

So my questions are.. Do you suggest I connect the units via Ethernet or Interlink? And what are the advantages of both? Also, am I making the smart move by putting the 700 series at the cockpit and the larger 1000 series in front? I figure the larger version should be in front so its easier for me to look at while using the trolling motor. Lastly, what parts will I need for both the Ethernet connect and Interlink connect to connect both units?

I would like to share way points for the most part on both units. the 700 series i own comes with internal GPS, I havent purchased the 1000 series yet but I will assume I will get one with GPS as well, unless there is a way to connect them both and only use the 700 unit GPS?

The 798ci Si model you stated you have is not Ethernet capable, so your only chance of linking these two units is via the an InterLink accessory.

The new 1100 series unit will come with is own GPS Receiver.  I would have each unit use its own GPS Receiver for better waypoint marking accuracy (install the GPS Receiver near to the transducer it will be using) and for redundancy.
