898 and 360?
« on: March 30, 2014, 09:11:11 PM »
New to the forum and have been lurking for a few ddays trying to find the answer but hhaven't found the answer.

I have an 898 si that is 3 yrs old on my boat.  I want to put the 360 imaging on up there instead of in the back one it being cheaper but more importantly that is where I fish from.  I have not updated software at all but can. Just curious if it will work on that model? From what I have read it should but would like to hear some opinions.  I also have an 1198 si on the console but don't fish from there ever.  any help is appreciated.  Also not sure on what software it has right now but will be home from No Dak in a few days and can look.

Thanks again

Jeremy

More than likely you will need to update both units for the 360 to work on which ever one you choose. The 360 will work fine on the 898. Just and FYI, if you are going to link both units via ethernet so you can use the 360 on either unit, you will also need to add the 5 port ethernet switch.

Sounds good.  Thanks for the info.  I have to register my units before I can update them too.

Not necessarily. But registration is a good idea. It will give you a 2 year warranty instead of 1 year. If you can't find the updates on the new Hbird site, email Greg with the details of what you want to do with your software and he will email you a safe version of the software.

Rotus,
You are thinking about the “Humminbird Select” program:
http://www.humminbirdselect.com/

Registering your unit to your “My Humminbird” account does not give the extra year of warranty.

Glad you mentioned it though as I don't think that it has made its way onto the new web site yet.

I will just be hooking the 360 up on my 898 at the bow.  The 1198 on console has side image and that is all I need back there.  Maybe eventually I will but for now I'm just going to stick with it on the front.  Are there any special cables that I need extra or will it plug into the back of my 898.  Also the universal sonar will not affect the 360 or vice versa correct?  I have some rods and reels to sell before I get the 360 I just want to get all the little stuff out of the way before I get it so I am not scrambling to find parts etc to make it work.

thanks for the info so far guys

Jeremy

Going to keep track of this one,  interested in doing the same with my 898.  I have and really like the 6.4 on the unit and I'm reluctant to give that up for right now.  Can you keep us updated on your project and let us know how it's going?  Shots and reviews... ;D

For both our sakes I hope it runs awesome.
Tell them I've gone fishing!

The 360 Imaging will come with the connection cable you need to connect directly up to your 898 unit.

The Universal Sonar and the 360 Imaging use different sonar frequencies and should not interfere with each other.

What unit do you have connected to the Universal Sonar?

The 898 is connected to the universal sonar on the trolling motor.  Thanks again for the info.  Now I just have to pull the trigger and get it.

I do have one more question.  Does the gps module that comes with the 360 work like a normal one or is it just for the heading.  I don't have a gps puck connected to my 898 on the bow but what I am hoping Iis that the one that comes with the unit will also do positioning so I can split screen my gps and 360 imaging on that unit.

The GPS module that comes with the 360 Imaging accessory has both GPS Receiver and a Compass in it for both positioning and heading.
