How much faster is the processor, and is there more memory?
I hear there is an internal GPS with the 1199.
Can you order the 1199 without the internal GPS?

Yes, the 1199c HD Si unit comes with an internal GPS Receiver.
No, the 1199c HD Si will only be built with the internal GPS Receiver as far as I know.

Maybe the corporate idea is to make you "want" to buy the external (more $$ for HB)..instead of including it in the package as before...

Lowrance sells their sonar units piecemeal, Head unit, GPS puck, Transducer.  And earlier the LSS.

I would be interested in the speed/accuracy of internal vs external.

Even if the units are very accurate, the problem will be that a unit at the console will create quite a bit of extra error due to the distance from the transducer.

It would be interesting if the internal transducer actually included the heading sensor.

Much less error at the bow, so maybe only need one external GPS puck for console.

But I would REALLY BE SURPRISED if the internal had the speed/accuracy of the external.
And I'm thinking the external will only be the AS-GRP-HS directional puck.
So NO to a internal including the heading sensor.

I'll wait and see.  My guessing doesn't do any good.

Humminbird better hurry up, my older 1197 is badly supported <-- Software-wise.

There are a few problems with internal as compared to
external.

The biggest problem with the internal is
that it can be easily blocked by things.
The human body can block GPS signals.
So, if you stand up to stretch your legs,
you may be blocking the signals of some satellites.

Also the receiving surface of the internal will be
smaller than the external. And, if you tip your
main unit for better screen viewing, the internal may
not be sitting flat against the sky.

One reason that Humminbird may have included the internal is
that for MOST users, it's easier to deal with.
There is nothing to hook up.
You just turn the machine on, and you have GPS.

You'll notice that Humminbird does things to better sell to
the masses.  Guys who are savvy, and want the very best accuracy possible,
are going to have to pay more for the options, and do more installation work and tweaking to be happy.

HB will be making a mistake if they try to force us to go to an internal GPS. 

Before I'd go to an internal unit, I would switch to a product which has an external GPS, even if it includes another supplier.

I would think you would automatically generate 10 ft of error unless you have your transducer directly under the unit, but that won't matter to alot of folks. I would guess they will probably still have a port for an external if someone wants optimum accuracy.

If some of the preliminary web pages they were testing were accurate, the new units may be cheaper.....adding an external GPS might be a push.

The thing that really bothers me, is that if I want to use an external(which I will), then
the damned machine will have the internal in it, and there is nothing I can do about it.
More weight, more internal wiring.  More that can go wrong.
Can we trust that if you bypass the internal through the menu option
that it won't still be drawing current?  I wouldn't bet my life on it.

It looks to me that the 1198 is the last best high-end unit.

Maybe HB is tired of fixing "GPS not connected" issues simply caused by the piddly connectors they use...

And they have so many of these piddly connector products on the market...they're in too deep to change the entire connector spectrum...

New  GPS will be compatible to Gallileo (In EUrope all GPS sell must be compatible in 2014, Galileo will official in october) more accurate as if it is internal antenna!

Little question, that new 1199 will be compatible to new chirp transduceur TM150 (300W) from airmar ?
