Title: Helix 7 Questions
Post by: andyw80 on March 13, 2016, 03:20:13 PM
Having some issues with my Helix 7 SI GPS.

Can't seem to get any clear pictures with the downscan or side imaging.

all the downscan and side imaging images are grainy...way too grainy I believe.

the downscan pics don't seem to be very detailed at all...I get parts of the trees/timber on downscan but not a good pic.

the sidescan has a dark line on the left side scan..any clue why this is?]

anybody have any suggestions

Some of he images seems like there is just a lot of clutter in the water ...and verified by the same clutter showing in the 2d ...

Keep the Sharpnes off and turn the Contrast down a little to see if some of the grainy will go away ...

Your Down Imaging is about normal for the HB SI units ...which do not have a dedicated "down pointing" piezo ... The DI image in the HB SI units is a computer generated blend of the left and right SI data ...

The line running parallel to the left of the center line is a reflection off something on your transom to the left of the xducer ... jackplate, another xducer, ladder, livewell screen, etc ...

Thanks.  Could the left pontoon be blocking the signal thus causing this line??

Ill try what you suggested.  To me the down image is pretty poor, just wish I would have done some research on this before.  Do you think it would help to get the high def ducer that comes with the 10 and 12?  Would that make the si /downimage quality better?

I would guess the pontoon is your issue ... Pontoons benefit from a dual SI xducer Setup with the AS SILR Y cable ... (Altho it does cost a bit for a second xducer and the Y cable)..

This would allow right SI to come from the right xducer ...and left SI to come from the left xducer ...

The XHS 9 HDSI 180 T will allow the HELIX 7 to get somewhat sharper SI images because of the longer SI piezoes in the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T ... And because the DI in your HELIX SI is basically the SI data/rearranged it will also help the DI images somewhat ...

Some can see the difference in quality ... Some cannot ...
