can anyone help me. i was told that i can get software to make my sidescan also do downscan is that true ??

Yes this is true.
Just register your unit on the Humminbird website (Support -->My Humminbird) and download the latest software from there or download the software from the download section here:

If you have the software downloaded transfer it from your PC to an SD card and do a software update on your unit as described in your unit's manual. Make sure you restore to factory defaults BEFORE you update your unit.
