898 vs 998
« on: March 25, 2011, 12:08:43 PM »
Hello,
I am seriously considering the purchase of either the 898c si or the 998 c si. I’ve been doing a lot of research on these and am having a tough time deciding which one I should buy. From what I can tell, both units are basically the same as far as specs and capabilities. The only difference I can see is that the 998 has a screen that is one inch larger and I think I’ve seen somewhere that the 998 has a faster processor than the 898. If that’s true, what in layman terms does this mean for a new user like me? With the 998, will I be able to see objects that much more than the 898? Other than technical specs, what would be the advantage to going with the 998 vs. the 898?

I’d really like to take advantage of this technology but want to make sure I’m happy with the one I eventually end up with. Any insight would greatly be appreciated.

I’ve visited this forum many times trying to learn more and there is some really great info here. Hat’s off to all of you who have contributed. I’ve learned most of what I know through this site and am looking forward to learning even more as I go.

I would opt for the 998 imo. both units are the same physical size ,so they will take up the same amount of room on your console, and the bigger screen is nice when running split screens. and I think they are identical except for screen size.

I have an 898 which is "the best" but "BIGGER is BETTER" when it comes to screen size and wish I had bought the 1100 series. The 898 has a good size readable screen and you're right the HB technology is second to none and this forum is the best place to get all your info when you buy your HB unit.

Thanks for the input guys. Another question - How about screen resolution between the two. I saw these in a store in demo mode and it seemed the 998 had much better resolution. Is that a difference between the two or is that controlled through some of the settings?

Hi ,
Below are the HB sites comparisons for the two units 898 & 998

I believe the the two have the same screen output. The settings can make a lot of difference to what and how clear you see on screen output.
You will have the best unit on the market either way!!!!

I just got the 898c SI and I really like it a lot.  It was a bit more than I wanted to spend at the time but if I had it to do over again I think I would have gone a bit more and got the 998.
