How do you delete old tracks in the 1198?

When you bring up the menu, you will see "Clear tracks", this will clear them for you.

You can also save tracks for later use.  Sometimes you will go over an area that you would like to repeat later.  Unfortunately you cannot save a portion of the track, so if you know the area and can retrace it, clear the track and retrace the are you want and then save it.  Sometimes I do this and make a recording at the same time to view later.

You will have to go to the “Waypoints, Routes and Tracks” menu (under the “Nav” tab in the main menu system), then go to “Options”, then “Select Multiple and…” and then select “Delete” then you select the tracks that you want to delete and cursor up to “Done” (or just press the EXIT key once) and use the right arrow key to delete the tracks.  You will be asked to confirm your deletion.
